Forged crank and balancer for 306
What crankshaft and balancer would you recommend?
I tend towards the Scat 43021 http://www.summitracing.com/int/part...3021/overview/

I would use a forged crank, but honestly, any crank you use will probably out live the block at almost 600 hp. They split in half at lower levels than that.

I think a forged crank might be cheap insurance for even such a relatively mild engine, considering the effects of a crank breaking at a 4500rpm launch with nitrous.
Also the bottom end would be ready for some higher revs if I ever feel the need to go to a solid roller in the future.
So what brand can be recommended? I used Scat I-beam rods in the past and was very pleased with the quality.

I would go with a Scat forged crank and Scat I-beam rods.

If I were building this engine for the application he was intending, I would internally balance it.
However, in his case, it would depend on several things...if he already has a balancer and flywheel, how light his pistons and rods are, and if he had the budget to internally balance.

+1 for internally AKA 0 balance - Scat or Eagle Forged and nice Hbeam Rods
this should get you to 400hp.

Hasn't the jury come out in favour of Scat forged cranks over Eagle?
If it's a Scat crank, which the OP favours, do Scat do a neutral/zero balance 3" stroke forged crank?

Yes, the jury is absolutely out....
And yes, Scat offers a 3" stroke crank that will internally balance.
