Wood steering wheels are usually mahogany, aren't they? Seems like a good stable wood for the purpose. The wood dash above looks very similar to mahog, also. You should be able to find veneers in just about any wood type, though. Made properly, just about any hardwood would work for a steering wheel, I would think. The biggest issue with woods like maple is that they like to move with temp & climate change. Laminating wood properly should help stabilize a lot of that, though. I think flamed maple is pretty tough to beat, for tastefully good looks

Jeff, actually naked is not that bad - I don't find them boring. Certainly at the other extreme from plush but it's nice to see a little of the owner's personality injected into these cars, adds character. Believe it or not, I like rat rods a lot. If I ever sell my replica a rat rod would be next

*13*, yeah the flamed maple is pretty sharp and I like it. I've also been looking at teak done for boat decking, I like that too. Both go well with light interiors and a cream or beige interior with either would look very nice imo. RodKnock would certainly back me up on this
