Swap Sizing: Engine Dimensions & Tips for Popular Swaps - OnAllCylinders
Note: Includes exhaust manifolds - 351W - 24"
- 429 / 460 (not Boss 429) - 27"
- FE (not SOHC) - 27"
Dimensional difference 289/302 vs 351 - Vintage Mustang Forums
Width Range: - 289 / 302: 18.75 - 24"
- 351W: 21 - 25"
- 289 / 302 w/hemi heads: 26"
- 351W w/hemi heads: 27.5"
Summary: 351W with hemi heads is wider than an FE or 385 series. Yeah, that would be a squeeze in a 289 car. Well, at least the spark plugs aren't buried deep under the heads!
I found this diagram on CC - very interesting:
