Thanks for the tips. Wire gauge should be fine, solenoid is in good condition.
Giving this more thought...As it’s happening when hot, it could also be heat soak effecting the starter.
Maybe the ticket is a gear reduction starter as what I’m after is solid cranking with the least amount of current draw. The 427R is only 10.5-1 with a moderate cam so it shouldn’t be too demanding.
