Crane is selling multi-application Melonized (hardened) steel gears as well.

But per Howard Cams Tech line Iron is good for the Austempered Ductile Iron Roller cams.
He did mention the Melonized gear would work but who would win the wear battle it most likely would the the Steel Melonized gear and the Cam would loose.
