Let me see? If you take a 427 FE it is considered a BB right?
Bore it .30 over, still a BB.
Now replace standard crank with a 428 and you have a 454 stroker. Still called a BB, right?
Take a 429, 460, etc. they are BB too, right?
Add a stroker and get 514. What do we all this, a BIG BB?

Now enter the new alum. blocks made by Raceparts, not really a Winsor, and not a FE. With the right guts it produces 427ci.
A 9.5 deck height block will produce 454ci with bigger crank.
The new block is about 37 years advanced in technology and weighs alot less than any FE.

In my book, a 427ci is a 427ci engine; and a 454ci is a 454ci engine no matter which way you slice the pie.

The quetion is: Should a 427 new block build be referred to as a "small block engine," or a "little big block engine," or maybe just a "427" ?
Go for it guys.

T.L.
It's a big block if it takes more than two to pick it up - it's an FE if it takes 12. If it's aluminum it's just expensive.

What's with this big block not reving stuff?? My 427 SOHC has the big block torque and power all the way up to 7500 rpm and beyond without any trouble!! Seems like the best of both worlds!!

Exclamation Your killing me

Two big block forums, constant debate over which is better(SB or BB), debate over the definition of SB and BB, etc, etc, etc.

You would think a small block forum would help end it all..... but no

Even in the announcement the debate continues. When the answer really is, 'it depends'. Even Kit Car this month got into the debate! Will the fun never end?
