4B12 is too early for a C5AE block. The casting date of 5B10 looks correct. Inspector F probably got a 4 instead of a 5. Had he gotten it correct, 5B12 would have been perfect for an assembly date. Most engines I saw in junkyards were cast just a few days before assembly. HiPos could be a little longer, but could be just a couple days, too. Not all HiPo engines were stamped with the VIN. The one you referred to in my book was stamped.
