ZF Differential change & Others
When did the ZF differential become standard on the Superformance MKIII?
Perhaps you guys with newer chassis can chime in on this one with chassis numbers...
*
I also understand they are also using a Smiths fuel gauge now with a white plastic back housing, (looks like the AMP Meter) requiring an additional ground wire to the fuel gauge...I have this change on chassis #2907...if its on any earlier chassis is unknown? Once again you new owners can check this...
*
Also the new internal parking brake...anyone got the earliest chassis number on that modification?
Just updating my records....
Thanks all...

The change was in the 2950 range. I have 2960 in stock with the ZF diff. There are some of each, i.e. ZF and BTR in the mid 2900's.

ZF Rear-end
From my understanding they started installing ZF rear-end around #2985, I own #2990. The problem I have now after installation of motor and Trans is, I have 8 degrees on my drive shaft. You should have between 3 & 5 degrees. At around 45 mph or so I have a vibration. I’ve been told that I’m going to be eating up u joints. Motor, trany, side pipes all look good. If I shim the trany, then the side pipes will be into the body. I installed a FE428 in mine. I don’t think it’s going to be any different if you put a small block in it.
SPF did not do the homework prior to installing the new ZF rear end. What SPF in Irvine is telling me is, is to raise the rear of the rear end. Well the puts a preload on the front bushings. And Barry told me that he had a customer do that, and it didn’t work, still had the vibration. Bottom line, I’m dealing with a rear-end that has been welded in, and the pinion angle is wrong. I just talked to Barry in Irvine (again) trying to get some info on what the fix on these new cars. And Berry can’t tell me anything!! I asked Berry for Jimme Price # so I could call him, but he would give me his #. As of right now my car is on the road, but don’t want to dive it tell I get this rear-end fix. I don’t want to be eating up u joints.
If anyone out there can tell me a fix, that would be GREAT!! Because Superformance is just blowing me off.

Some early cars with the ZF apparently had the angle incorrect. There are different stories as to how this happened, but after the issue was identified, the mounting was changed. Keep in mind that the short driveshaft in the SPF will compound the issue as compared to the much longer Camaro driveshaft.
There is a fix and some rather simple ways to resolve the issue. If you want to contact me I can refer you to the solution. I can't speak for what Barry has told or not told you, but it can be fixed.
And raising the engine will not make your sidepipes hit the body as there are angled spacers available to adjust the pipes to clear the body. Sometimes these are needed on standard installs to put the pipes dead-center in the opening.
I will do the repair no cost, but you are on the wrong coast for me to help unless you want to ship your car here.
Regardless, contact me and I put you on to some information.
