 I have an Optima with the strap.  No problems (and I'm a wimp).
 Thinking about this I wonder if drilling say a one inch hole in the bottom of the battery box at the center of the battery location would work better.  You could push the battery out from under the car (need 2 people to do this).  The hole could be sealed with a rubber grommet.  Just a crazy thought.

 I got the battery out ok, but it was DEAD.  Battery Tender people sent me a new Battery Tender, fine, but battery still dead!  The garage at work charged up my battery and now the tender will keep it charged.  I did put a strap around it to make it easy to extract.  My SPF battery box has a small hole in the bottom already and I assume it is to allow liquid to drain out if it gets in there.  Still wonder if hole in bottom of battery box is necessary. 				 Cheap and easy  battery elevator! 
 So I too had to replace my battery recently and like most I found it a PITA to remove the battery because of its weight , location and no strap!. So while I had the battery out I decided to fix it once and for all. I started by cutting a 1.5” diameter hole in the center of the floor of the battery box with a whole saw.
 Then I cut a .125 thick stainless plate to fit in the bottom of the box with about 1” of clearance on the sides.
 I centered it in the bottom box and traced around the hole id cut.
 I took it out flipped it over and welded a 1” long ,  ½-13, flush head, cap screw in the center of my marked location.
 I got a 10” long piece of steel tube (I think it was about 1-1/8?) and welded a ½-13 nut into the end.
 When you need to pull the battery you just disconnect the cables, screw the tube onto the bottom of the plate in the battery box and put your floor jack under the tube and jack it up and out of the hole.

 Yes....steve it is essentially battery flavored push-upBut it was $7.00 cheaper than the strap and i got to spend an hour working on the cobra! Hehe!

 I'll chine in here in 2018.   I went to O'reily's and bought the battery lift strap that hooks to the terminals. I took a 4x6 about a foot long then hooked one end of a 4 foot pipe under the strap...put the 2x6x12 near the middle of the pipe and pushed down on the far end swinging the battery up far enough to pull it out of the hole........It took about 5 seconds and no strained muscles.

 I made a strap similar to this principle below, but the strap is just long enough to allow your hand around it. The back of your knuckles are virtually on the battery, but it gives room in tight places.https://www.autoelectricsupplies.co....27/category/27

 I use a strap to remove the battery in the Coupe but I like D-Cells idea. Only my battery is located where access to the bottom of the box is not possible.
