Steve,
The tires and car look great. Thanks for posting the pictures. Did you do any adjustments to the suspension or is that the factory settings? Thanks Dan |
Steve,
Thanks for the vivid comparison. It helps a lot. Can you tell us what sizes your Avons are? |
Dan -
The car is a Superformance (#1061) which has a fully adjustable coilover suspension with custom Olthoff Bilsteins. I think that the height in these pictures is a little high - maybe around 27." at the center of the fender wells - this was early last spring. Car is presently set lower - around 26" - doesn't look quite as good and rides hard on the street at this height, but on the track it is fearsome. Jim - The tires in the picture are 295/50/15 rear and 225/65/15 front. The replacement set in my garage are 245/60/15 front, which were not available when I bought the first set. -steve |

"Boy oh Boy" ..... I am overwhelmed by the fabulous response to my original question …. I feel like I have won an Oscar ! …….I would like to thank ………….. No really Guys, thanks for taking the time.
It seems that on the SPF MK lll’s Avon’s CR6ZZ are the tire of choice at the moment. 245/60x15 (F) & 295/50x15 (R) will fit without modifications and a ride height of 26 ½” (a good starting point) can be achieved without scuffing. Available from Roger Kraus Racing (no comercial contact) and others. James :D |
also looking into see what "American Racer" is or is not coming out with for these sized tires as well; apparently they are still in development with that tire. Who knows...
Hey, maybe with the Avons and American Racer tires, we'll get our selection of decent tires back... in the next few years. |

Cobra Kit Car Tires From American Racer® ;) |
I think you may also find a picture or two of Steve's car at this years Run n Gun in this months (March 08) issue of Kit Car Magazine. I can testify that Steve had his car as well as most of the Pro class Cobra's running slicks. Good to see you post here Steve and I hope to see you again in October.
"SPIRITED" is that what your neighbors call it? :) Clois |
Clois -
All of the run n gun guys feel like family now. I look forward to seeing you all in October! |
Thanks Steve,
I just put them on in Sept 07, and love them. Will advise as time and milage pass. |
Steve,
Question, what have you found the optimum F/R track air pressures to be? Have you taken any temp. readings? ...also, what camber do you have dialed in for track work? Thanks, Bret. |
Brett,
PLEASE post your thoughts on these tires after you have put some miles on them. I am beginning to get tired of hearing myself crow about how much I love these things! I only want to spread the word because I think they are such a terrific performance upgrade to our cars, but I'd sure like to hear someone else's opinion! Happy motoring! -steve |
Perceived value is the key
On the topic of "Getting the word out there"....
People will like them even more once they bring the price down to reality; and no matter how good they are. Obviously I had been talking with the wrong people on these tires a while back regarding heavy bulk discounts. I had looked into a bulk purchase discount for WSCB attendees to arrange to buy like 50 sets, and got no traction there. No perceived discount offered. Like I said, probably not dealing with the right person. If you are trying to help get the word out, it happens naturally by referral when more people buy the tires. A LOT more people will buy them once they move from a good value to a great value status. After the first earlybird shockwave started winding down, I-phones started selling like crazy again once they brought the price down a little closer to reality. :D That's my .02 cents on it FWIW. |
Steve,
They are sticky SOB's !! I love 'em. |

A little expensive, but worth the extra money in my opinion. |
You bet. I hope they will be available when I need the next set.
|
I now have the Avons. They are very sticky, tossing up loose gravel quite a bit. They seem smooth, stable. Much better than the BFG's I pulled off.
Any ideas on pressure? I ran 20 in the BFGs but have been running 26-28 in the Avons. |
I have a BB al engine and as suggested by another member on this site......28psi cold F&R. So far, awesome.
|
Those with the Avons, Can you post some pictures and what sizes you went with? I'm sure we would all love to see how they look as well...
Thanks, Dan |
F - 245/60R15
R - 295/50R15 i'll get some pics tomorrow (If the weather clears) |
