I was going to jump in and post the links that answer your questions but Jim beat me to it. Don't worry, it should be fine.
As an update, I had concerns about the NYS inspection when it came due. The inspection station was not familiar with "custom" registrations but when he punched in the VIN, although the requirement was indeed a dyno and sniff test, the required standards were verrrry liberal. My SPF was wayyy below the requirement and passed quite easily.
