SPF wind wings?

Hi all,

Does anyone know what the proper orientation of the wind wing hinges are? Are they supposed to be in front or behind the wing glass when installed? With the hinges in front, as I have them now, the wings fold back only as far as the windshield frame will allow but could fold forward to the same angle as the windshield.
I always get confused every spring when reinstalling them after removal of the top...

The hinges are intended to be in front of the Windwings.

Here is pic of my wind wing. Bracket towards front, wing on back of bracket.



Why do you have to remove the brackets when removing the top? I do not have to do that.

Actually, I remove them for the duration of the winter because they get in the way of the sliding window frames, not the top...

I really would not know, Ray. I had the top on once when I bought the car just to see how it fit. After it was on, I could not get into the car!

All my top stuff is stored down in the cellar. Has not been touched in 3 years

My top from spf 995 is still in brand new condition. The new owner says he will never put it on either. My new spf will never have the top on. Gotta at least like the weather in California.....the politics nahhhh.

I'm right there with you. My top is in the trunk.. and will never be on the car!

I use mine to drain the oil on because I don't want to get my grease rags dirty

I took delivery of my car in June of last year and finally pulled the top out of the trunk on Sunday. It's now stored in the garage and I've got a ton of space in the trunk.

I haven't used the tonneau cover yet either. Wonder what SPF's cost is for the top...kind of a waste IMHO.

SOOO, that's whats in the trunk...I thought it was luggage?! Really, I would rather have had the top as an option so I could have used the money saved by not getting it and used the savings for more important things...like 17 inch wheels.

For those that use the top, you're my hero...cause if the heater isn't enough to keep the elements at bay, I'll drive my truck

you guys need to USE your tops and enjoy the excitement of driving in the rain ...your life will be more complete .

Fair weather sailors don't know what they are missing with these water torture vehicles ...if there are no white caps on the water that is 1/2 inch or more deep over the nap of the carpet then you might as well keep it in the garage .

You don't know real excitement until you have driven your Cobra in heavy rain. I keep a towel inside (for myself).

Actually, wet handling is not too bad with the Yokohamas. You DO have to be very smooth with the throttle in the rain, and in below freezing temps. Then there is the snow......

I don't even use the wind wings any more. If you do use the side curtains, the wind wings make an extra step for the process of getting into or out of the car...

Fold the wind wing forward
Open the side curtain
Reach in and open the door
Enter the car (with the top on, this will keep you in shape!!!)
Close the door (holding the front of the side curtain inside the windshield)
Reach out and fold back the wind wing
Close the window

If it is raining hard, you are already wet :-)

If you drive your Cobra winters in the northeast, you know what I mean!

You haven't lived until you are in a pouring rainstorm and the replica AC Ace roof is leaking like a sieve.

I've done a lot of road tips, some my top has seen plenty of action. It is hard to get on, I need to stretch the hell out of it. And if the car sits all night in the rain - the inside fills up with water. Like 6 inches in the driver's footwell and 3 inches in the passengers. You also haven't lived until you bailed water out of a Cobra in the rain in a motel parking lot...ahh. Try to dry it out before it molds. I recommend heading for sunny climates.

The tonneau is a better choice for parking the car in the rain...less leaks. When I'm on a solo trip, I'll leave the tonneau on all the time, just opening the driver's flap for driving. I typically use the tonneau to secure the car at night, like in motel lots. Leaving it on also provides someplace to store drinks, etc. out of the sun.

Anyways, drive in the rain. You'll have fun stories like these!

I have had British cars my whole life...Believe me when I say I know leaky tops.........I had a Spitfire that leaked water when it wasn't raining..........

I still have no intention to put this new top on.....
