Default So, what do you think your SPF is worth?

'Twas a slow day at work today. So I compiled a list of all the Superformance MkIIIs which are for sale on Club Cobra and Cobra Country (both sold and unsold) to see what they might be worth on today's market. So what were the results?

There are 100 SPF Cobras listed, 50 sold and 50 unsold. The average asking price was $51,758 USD. Prices seem to level off after six years and don't vary much after that.

1996 - n/a
1997 - $47,175
1998 - $46,550
1999 - $48,350
2000 - $46,108
2001 - $46,970
2002 - $47,050
2003 - $49,158
2004 - $51,667
2005 - $58,256
2006 - $57,640
2007 - $57,125
2008 - $53,750
2009 - $66,933
n/a - $49,750

The greatest number of cars were 2005 models (17), followed by 2000 models (11), and then by 2001, 2004 and 2006 models (9 each).

So, does that seem to jive with what you think your SPF Cobra is worth?

Of the 46 that sold, you might want to exclude any sales that took place before 2008 since those numbers would be inflated relative to the current market. Great info for someone who wants to buy or sell a Superformance and understand what the current market looks like.

I would say those numbers are pretty close in this market. I own my car and don't plan on selling anytime soon though...

good numbers, seems to be prtty close to the homework i was doing when trying to decide on whether to buy used or build my own. i chose to build. i have 71,000 invested, not including my labor for the build. it was appraised at 77,500. i wouldn't take less than 62,000. but then again......my car is not for sale. just my 2 cents worth.

My SPF is priceless -(ok-ok-- before you laugh)-

It has enabled the most freedom of expression of what I wanted in a hot rod-/- cool car and == I just cant put a price on that. --

Of course on the flip side, in the last 6 months I've seen a few SPF sell for $34,000-$38,700 Both big and small block.

As most know this is my favorite topic, LOL. I have actually seen SPF / BDR prices stablize in the last two months and actually increase. Bottom line is SPF and BDR are not selling as many, this means less on the market. People who wanted to sell have sold, and the one who bought are not ready to sell. Back to that silly supply and demand equation. True from your numbers above there are 48 unsold but hey this is a big planet and at one time spf was selling 200 new cars a year. 34K to 39K for a 2005 newer SPF with a Roush, I will buy them all day and night long and flip for an EASY 12K profit. You will get your price, some get it in days other takes months, some collapse and give it away those are the ones I like.

FYI, there were only two cars on my list that were sold prior to 2008 and both were within the average range for their model years. So I guess you could view the figures as reflecting the current market situation.

(You may have noted that I revised my table slightly, as I had accidentally doubled-counted one car. I've edited my original post above to correct it.)

I've seen the same thing. Also, the prices posted by the OP were ASKING prices, not SELLING prices. In a good market, the difference between the two is approx. 10%. In todays market, 20-30% is common. This applies to all toys, not just Cobras.

Of the 93 Cobras on the list, 67 were small-block cars (including strokers), 23 were big-block cars, and 3 were unclear as to what they were running. The average asking price for SBs and BBs hardly varied: $51,704 vs $52,706 USD.

jwd is correct to point out that these are asking prices and not selling prices. But as there is no data source for transaction prices on these things, you'll have to make do with these figures for now. Not sure whether jwd's estimates on percentages are accurate either; such things will vary depending on how desperate the buyer or seller is during the negotiations.

I sold my 2001 SPF in August of last year. I was asking 50K, and ended up getting 45K on Ebay. It was a 392 stroker car.

That's about what I'd peg my own at...Mid 40's all day long. That seems to be the sweet spot for older SPFs. Not selling so it doesn't matter, but I still check market conditions just because.

So far all the responses have focused on their car's current value, but the other thing this breakdown suggests is that depreciation on these cars seems to bottom out/level off after the first 5-6 years. After that the price seems to hang tough. Try THAT with a Toyota Camry.

That's a very fair and true statement, and a testimony to the consistent quality in the SPF brand. I believe the same can be said for other premium replicas out there...they all settle to their own bottom but rarely breach that floor. That's an efficient market...supply and demand determine the true value.

With only 5K miles on mine, I would ask what I paid for it. The hope would be to get the guy who wants a new(er) one but doesnt want to wait for it. Mine has all the little bugs worked out and is ready for delivery.

There has to be a few impulse buyers out there. That being said, I plan to keep mine forever.....and beyond! There is just no better car Period.

As I suspect is the same with others, I keep detailed records of what I've spent on my snake. I figure my SPF is worth about about $15K less that I have into it!
