Default Springs for a EM Cobra.

I been having a difficult time selecting springs for my Everett-Morrison Cobra. I am running Aldan coil-overs and have changed the springs several times and still can't get it right. Off hand, I can't remember what springs I have on it now, but the front is to stiff and the rear to soft. I am running a 351C with an AOD, tubular A arms and a Ford 8.8 axle. Any idea of what weight springs should I use?

Thanx,
Rob

Rob,
There are lots of threads on this topic and no single, simple answer. i suggest you do a search of this forum with the words "spring rate wheel" and read up on what has already been said.

Now I am going to assume your on leaf springs in the rear with 8.8 rear end. The springs in the front shouldnt be too much trouble. Go to a public scale somewhere and weigh the car..then put just the front end on the scale. That will tell you what your front weight percentage is of the total weight of the car. Once you have those numbers call your springs guys and tell them what you have and what those numbers are. You can do the same for the back but based on the assumption that you have leaf springs changing those is going to be a real pain. What I would do with the back is make shock change. You can get shocks with varying rates of compression and rebound. A harder compression rate would make the rear end a little more stiff and feel more stable.

Just some thoughts

If I would have read your details up there I would have known you were on 4 link in the rear...duhhhhh(excuse me while I put my helmet back on). The same applys for the rear as the front. Are your coilovers on the rear of the car in front of or behind the rear axle? If they behind then you will need a little heavier spring then you would if they mounted in the front.

You need to weight the corners, and fiqure out the mounting ratios to get an idea of where to go

Placement on the length of the control arm, angle the spring/shock is mounted, etc
