My primary pipes (headers) are mild steel and now 19 years old. They were ceramic coated from the beginning.

17 years ago I wrapped them with 2" wide Thermo Tec woven insulation tape because of excessive foot box heat. I've re-wrapped them several times in subsequent years so I can attest to their current condition. The pipes are still rust-free and appear to have many years of life left.
