Default carburator fire

hi, i have this problem. my car run good, but last week i went to start and it didn't start. it make some fire from carburator and don't start. engine is 351w stroke 393 and caruburator is a demon. Regards

sometimes they'll do that, if you have the cleaner off make sure you have a shirt or rag handy to smother the fire. if it hasn't been started before, make sure you have enough ignition advance.

as long as it didn't look like this, you're still in the ballgame.

If it ran good last week, did you make any adjustments or do anything to the carburetor or timing? Did it backfire when the fire started?

You might want to check the ignition advance mechanism and make sure its not stuck in the advanced position

hi guy,
today i repair my car. i change the demon carburator with holley carburator 750cfm. the car start but it is to early because the exhaust pipes became red. i try with stroboscopic gun and the engine run at 3000rpm about 18 degree, is correct?

Hi Norberto, you should be between 36-40 deg at 3k rpm!

ok i can try. now with these carburator the minimu rpm is 800/900rpm. how many deg at 800rpm?

Between 12 and 14 degrees at about 1000 rpm.

Mechanical or vacuum advance on the distributor? Either way, sounds like something is stuck and not allowing it to advance as it should. The numbers in the posts above should be pretty close to what you want.

When I was a kid, I was at our local drag strip and saw a car catch fire. Flames were coming out of the hood scoop. One of the mechanics stuck his bare hand in the scoop to smother the carb. I guess his hand was less important than the carb.
His dedication kind of impressed me.
