Electric Carting in Frisco: Since this place is only a few minutes from my house, I went by there over the weekend to check it out. And I learned a few things that might be of interest:
*Helmets--their loaners require a head sock that they give you. It is not the usual thin painter's head sock but a sweatshirt-thick thing that had most of the driver's visors fogged up. (Can you say, Gross!) Bring your own helmet--full-face OK, and open-face is OK but must have goggles/visor for eye protection.
*One smart guy had a GoHero camera stuck to the top of his helmet. I overheard that it makes some fun video.
*A lot of groups wait to do the 12-lap races, so there will be lots of downtime between sessions. (Car show in parking lot? Burnouts in the industrial park?) I do not know how many sessions we will sign up for. That is someone else's decision. Just know there is a lot of waiting. 10 at a time run a session.
*The "under-56" cart" (for elementary-size kids) looks real fun. Not as fast, but sufficient.
*Finally, we need to ask if we can run the track counter-clockwise as well as clockwise. It looks like we could double the fun that way. According to the manager on duty Saturday night, the track configuration changes every few months, but no one has ever asked to go the other direction. Wiggling the carts slowly into the pits (up to the battery chargers) will require some doing, but definitely worth the work. Or at least worth asking IN ADVANCE. Just a thought...
P.S. *Safety--the carts are also radio controlled. If the workers see a wipe-out, they hold down a button on a transmitter that makes ALL the carts go "pace lap" slow until the blockage is cleared. Then they release the carts electronically to return to regular speed. Ingenious! (That will help control jshel, ssssammy, and jross who need to know where the limits of traction are...)

Okay, at best only 8 have expressed an interest in this. I guess we'll just meet there, pay for our racing and have fun. If we had a huge number express interest I would have looked into making a reservation and having the track just just for us, for an hour or two. You can rent the track for $1250 per hour.
My title for this thread really doesn't make people realize this thread is for a group outing for Feb. 25th. Guess I'll make another thread and direct people here in case there is more interest.

David I have never been there so I can't say for sure. I really can't imagine that it would take longer than two hours, unless someone just wanted to stay longer to hang out and socialize or buy more seat time. Hope to see you there!

Be ready to race at high noon! Show up a few minutes early to socialize. I'm shooting for 1130AM. I may be driving a daily driver so I'll see you guys there..

I just called and talked with them on the phone and they said they will do their best to work us in and get us on the track all together in between a couple of other groups that will also be there. It could easily take a couple of hours. It's my bad for not actually making a reservation a few days ago. I misread the web site and was under the impression that reservations were only needed to reserve the track for a group of 12 or more... DamDFW, it could be cutting it close.
See you guys at the track!

Joe,
I won't be there tomorrow.
If everything goes well, I hope to be doing another kind of go carting.
See you later in the afternoon.
John

Fun times guys! For the record, upon reviewing the race timing sheets, it looks like following made the podium:
Prof (Paul) Fastest Lap Time 26.940- 1st Place
Airspeed (Jerry) - Fastest Lap Time 27.500 - 2nd Place
OX (??) - Fastest Lap Time 27.830 - 3rd Place
Who is OX? Mike?
Yeah I sucked.. 28.260 was my best..

I had fun too, except.for.the drive. It took me 2 hrs. to get home due.to traffic issues. Construction backups on 121 and I35W... Plus one backup due to a wreck, also on 121...
