Ren,
The herky jerky motion I witnessed was nothing more than your carb not getting the gas it needed. I'm no certified mechanic, but that much is true. I've taken engines down to the block and rebuilt them before. I don't have that kind of ambition anymore. But I think I can assure you of that in regards to your fuel problem.
I am a huge believer in "don't fix what ain't broken". Get your alternator tested off the car before you go messing with everything else (other than the fuel pump).

Gregg -- no biggie. I was just adding clarification to the day.

Ren Man -- hmmm, see if you can get some specs out of Summit (where you bought the alternator) then -- what voltage you should expect from what rpms. Of course, having a shop check it is probably easier.

Agree with Jeff and your friend. Low voltage to the MSD is a problem, but the 0 psi on the fuel gauge is indicative of another problem. But do it one at a time so you can feel the effects of each change.

So what is "improper detonation" ?!?!?!?

Default My Apologies To Bobby Fullen

I want to publicly apologize to Bobby Fullen for the implication that what he has done for me is anything but professional. I think we all agree that no matter who built your car you are going to have to take it on a few shakedown sessions just to ensure what's working and what needs tweaked? I could not have done half of the work that Bobby and his shop "River City Rod and Custom" have done. He has built a number of Cobras and Hot Rods. None of us would have any way to anticipate that an Alternator could not be working properly right out of the box. The car ran like a dream when I picked it up from Bobby's Shop. The paint is beautiful !

Again, I'm sorry for hurting my friend by my senseless remarks. Email has a way of not coming off the best at times.

Regards,

Neil,

Haven't touched the car other than putting a charger on the battery. Nell had me doing the Christmas decorating thing. I need to get crackin on replacing the intake manifold gasket and having the alternator checked.

Good luck. Would've loved to help, but will be out of town. If you don't get it all done before the beginning of Jan, let me know -- I'll be back on the 4th-ish.
