Default Registration Renewal Issues Collin County

Has anyone had any recent issues with registration renewal in Collin County? I titled and registered last year, so this is my first renewal. My FFR MK4 is registered as an ASVE 2020, replica 1965 Shelby. I have the custom vehicle plates.

The issue I am having is that they are stating that the yearly inspection is required. They are getting hung up on the 2020 completion date. I have a feeling it is both a lack of familiarity and possibly something wrong in their system in regards to correct initial registration.

They mentioned in passing that the rules changed last June, but haven't found any reference to what that rule change is.

Also, does anyone have a direct reference to where it states that cars titled as 1965 replica is exempt. I can only find reference to "antique" plated cars being exempt.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thank you
Jason

Jason,
If it was already titled and the license is running out, in Texas you just get an inspection (show them insurance). Then go online and renew with a credit card. Mine runs out this month so going this evening to get the inspection.
Good luck,
Richard

That is not true for "CUSTOM VEHICLE" designation. No annual inspection is required.

Print out the ASVE manual from the txdmv website and take it with you.

https://www.txdmv.gov/sites/default/...cle_Manual.pdf

Transportation code Chapter 548:

Sec. 548.052. VEHICLES NOT SUBJECT TO INSPECTION. This chapter does not apply to:

(1) a trailer, semitrailer, pole trailer, or mobile home moving under or bearing a current factory-delivery license plate or current in-transit license plate;

(2) a vehicle moving under or bearing a paper dealer in-transit tag, machinery license, disaster license, parade license, prorate tab, one-trip permit, vehicle temporary transit permit, antique license, custom vehicle license, street rod license, temporary 24-hour permit, or permit license;

(3) a trailer, semitrailer, pole trailer, or mobile home having an actual gross weight or registered gross weight of 7,500 pounds or less;

(4) farm machinery, road-building equipment, a farm trailer, or a vehicle required to display a slow-moving-vehicle emblem under Section 547.703;

(5) a former military vehicle, as defined by Section 504.502;

(6) a vehicle qualified for a tax exemption under Section 152.092, Tax Code; or

(7) a vehicle for which a certificate of title has been issued but that is not required to be registered, including an off-highway vehicle registered under Section 502.140(c).

Registration renewal complete with no inspection. The Collin County Tax Office people in Frisco are familiar and got it all sorted out. Thanks for the help.
