This beautiful Gold '68 Shelby Mustang went last night for $175,000.
Amazing work by the auctioneers - It had stalled at $120-130 and looked like it was about to be sold, then they got the fever up and the bidding shot up again. The winning bidder shut everyone down when he went from $150,000 to $175,000 in one bid.

There's a huge list of Shelby's offered:
http://www2.barrett-jackson.com/apps...2999&orderby=1
There were some great buys too. Some big block well-built hot rods that took probably $60k to build were sold for $40-$50k.
This '65 Mustang went for $6000. Not very optioned, but still.

BJ changed their commission rates for 2007. As mentioned, buyer pays
10%, Consignor pays 8% ($500 minimun) on No Reserve sales.

Default Bill Cosby 200MPH

For those of you who have not heard Bill Cosby's 200MPH skit on his Shelby Supersnake:

I thought all the cars at BJ are theoretically "No Reserve". Keith Jackson stopped taking reserve cars a couple of years ago, explaining "why should I take a car I may not get a commission on, when I have hundreds of others that want me to sell their car at no reserve? I only have so many slots for the auction."
Regarding the "modified" Shelby Cobra, only two were ever made, one for
Shelby, one for Bill Cosby, both made by Shelby American, so this is a very rare and desirable Cobra for many reasons, one of which is NOT being how safe it is to drive! It may be ugly, but its historic.

$20 mill for a Coupe? I thought the highest paid was around 4 mill for a Coupe, anyone know what the 'real' numbers might be?

...not to mention the 190 mph number, but it makes a good story.

Wink Excaliber, don't forget "Who" I was quoting!

Excaliber,
I agree with you because I also had a bit of a problem with the numbers, but I have to remember where the information came from and take it with a grain of salt!
Sometimes, things get a bit foggy the further we get from them!
We shall see fairly soon as I just saw the Barrett-Jackson ad on the Speed Channel as starting on this coming Tuesday...... and this is sure to be a "Saturday night Prime Time" car!

Oops! Craig Jackson, of course! I confuse him with Keith Martin of Sports Car Market fame. Sorry!

I wonder if the old man (Shelby) will attend the BJ auction to send off his Supersnake?

As Jim said, all cars are "No Reserve" cars.........I watched a documentary type show a while back about the 2006 BJ auction........Craig stated that they have room/time to sell about 1100 autos, give or take a few and for the 2006 sale, they had a little over 5000 applications to pick from, he also stated that any application with "A reserve price" was immediatley put aside and not considered for the sale..........

The show focused on 2 different collector/seller/specualtors that had each brought 4 to 6 cars to sell...........one seller lost money on 4 of the 6, but end the end, made a few dollars all total, cause he had one great seller..........I think the other seller lost money on all her cars and was very disappointed and accused the BJ people of not giving her cars more time on the block and more "hype", she left pretty mad..........

A lot of sellers leave mad when their cars do not bring "lotto money" that they think they'll get, because a similar car got big money last year, too many speculators with pipe dreams........they show the top dogs in prime time, but if you would see some of the non-prime time cars, you'd be surprised at some of the low prices these cars are sold for................

So this is 3015? When did Scaife sell it? Did Scaife own it? Or is there 3 now?

They repainted the CSX3015 from black to Gardsman blue:

As for the owner, looks like it's Harley E. Cluxton III.

Speaking of Keith Martin, I heard he was "escorted" off the premises at Barrett Jackson because of statements he was making in the press box. Any truth to this story??

They mentioned last night that phone bidders were paying a 12% buyers fee, compared to the 10% fee for people there at the auction. Yikes !

That said, there seemed to be some pretty good buys last night (Friday) and they were reporting about 2/3 of the way into the evening that the total sales dollars were down considerably from 2006 (they gave actual numbers which I don't recall).

Apparently the Keith Martin story may be true:
http://jalopnik.com/cars/auctions/mo...php?mail2=true

Very cool GT40 on Saturday:
http://www.barrett-jackson.com/carli...LotNumber=1252

Watch for this one too. Should be late in the day after the Supersnake:
http://www.barrett-jackson.com/carli...LotNumber=1565

I can't believe a bunch of the recreations and "tributes" are going for as much or more than numbers matching cars. That's whacked.

I talked two a couple of sellers who had brought three or four cars last and this year. They both said that their sales were down 20-25 percent from last year. Small sample, I know, but kind of reflects what Yetiman heard on TV.
