Default GT500 power potential...its a LOT

I know a handful in the DFW Club have GT500s, so I thought you might
be interested to know what they can do with 20+ pounds of boost with aftermarkedt big Whipple and race gas........WOW! Pretty silly numbers considering it is at the wheels. This is on my brothers new car....has like 4,000 miles on it.

Is that with the 3.4 blower or the 2.3?

What is the difference between the 3 pulls?

Can you see if he can get SAE numbers, not STD?

Definitely amazing that the motor can make that kind of power right off the showroom floor, without ever having it's valve covers off.

It is the big 3.4 whipple. The difference in the 3 pulls is the different amount of max boost for each pull.

Now if Ford could improve the suspension so the car could go in other directions other than straight and not weigh 2 tons!

Sal, I heard of a 2 valve pickup truck that pegged a 248c Dynojet with a 2.3 . Something like 1200hp? I think it was this one:

Good ole Chris strikes again .

Actually, I did most of the Whipple testing on the Lightning (and the M112 rear inlet with Chris) on my truck. All of my record setting ETs were actually with the Works 112 and spray. I did run the Works 140 (whipple 2.3 unit) for a while too. I snapped the crank in half on a pass at 26 psi with a 300 shot on top. The truck went 110 in the 1/8 before the motor let go. It would have been the first 9 second Gen 2 Lightning, almost 3 years before the first one actually happened. After the new motor went in, I ran the whipple a few times. The truck did go 10.59 on Whipple alone, on a soft tune, but that was stull a tenth slower than the 112 with spray.

Eventually, the Whipple tore the keyway off the crankshaft. It takes massive power to turn it. I then went to a Procharger F1R blower, but ran into the same issues. At that point, is when I did the smart thing and went turbo. With the 76GTSH, I made 805/830 to the wheels, which on a Lightning is almost 1000 engine hp. This was almost 4 years ago, and to date I have not seen an all boost Lightning dyno sheet higher than that.

I do miss that truck. Ironically, the next pass after that photo was taken, was my infamous nitrous explosion that had the whole nose in flames.

It'll be OK on the drag strip with some serious SLICKS. At 4000 pounds (oink oink) the GT500 with 500 horse is all ready impossible to 'hook up' on street tires. A modest build GT with less horse power may well show you it's tail lights stop light to stop light!

Sal,

You've got me in tears from laughter!!!!

That "shop talk" talk made me think I was at a plumbers convention. You know: "It says sprocket, not socket!"

STD ratings are higher, which is why a lot of dyno shops and vendors are using them more. It makes them look better. SAE is still the industry standard.

For an 800rwhp car, the difference between SAE and STD could be about 30 hp.

These cars really are amazing on how simple bolt ons can take the HP up so much. Just a cold air package, smaller pulley and tune will net you 140 more rear wheel HP.
