Default Top loader / 3 shifter shafts leak on side of case .

Is there a simpe way to pull the shifter shafts out enough to change the rubber rings . I have it one the work bench with the top off . It looks to me if I took the bolt out behind the rail that attach the shafts to out , it may allow for that shaft to come out . Thanks !

If you're talking about the little shifter shafts on the side, no....you about have to take the whole trans apart to get those out. They install from the inside.

It's been awhile since I've been in a Toploader, but I think 2 of the 3 come out the rear.

hi john if i recall the rods do come out the back after the tail shaft is removed..the rods have set screws on the forks as you can see,and the rods have a series of detents and springs in the top and behind the bolt in between the shift bosse out side...sound confusing?? they are stops for shifter fork movement ,and also a reverse lockout so you dont go in between gears ...

Gotta watch out for that dang reverse lockout pin, it wants to fall out of place just when your ready to reassemble. Trans will shift fine, mostly, until one day it decides to hang up between 1st and reverse and lock the linkage tight. THATS when you eventually figure out the reverse pin fell out...

I know this for a fact.
