Let me take the liberty of forwarding to you a reply from an email I received from Jamvan on the subject of titling in NJ - it was quite thorough. Luke-44

"Legally the car needs to be titled based upon the year of the chassis. In your case 2003(?). In my case 1998. The only way NJ will allow you to have QQ plates is that if you purchase a kit car from out of state that was previously registered as a car that was 25 years old. The state will make you go thru a very extensive inspection process to get the final title.

I have heard of a couple of companies that will change the title to your car, but NJ DMV was very blunt that this is illegal. I have been learning more and more about this over the past 6
months. The most important thing is that you have very clean records as to the engine in the car.

I recommend you spend the extra money and have a 60's vintage engine put in the car especially if you plan on doing any engine modifications. NJ will test the car for emissions based upon the year of the engine block. Also, I have found a great insurance carrier for insurance, Condon & Skelly in Mapleshade, NJ. Best rates anywhere.

As to the Resistration issues, you are correct, you car get Collector status for the car in NJ, but that won't get you QQ plates. While they will exempt you from inspections, you will still need to to take the car in to have the milage verified annually. "

Hope this helps, luke-44
