Air filter on webers
I would like to see pictures of air filter on Weber type of injection systems.
I do have the screens on the horns but I'm not sure that is enough.
I have Dynaformance fuel injection on my GT 40. I would like to install air filters. Or I could install screens on the intake ducts and seal off the horns from the air off the motor.
Pictures would help me decide what I want.
Pictures Please.

I use these on the street. I'v never tested them to see what kind of power they lose.
I saw this one on a car at a show; I didn't get to speak with the owner. But I have heard it's available from TWM.
On the track I use these stacks, But I leave them open. The "Tea Strainers" cost me an honest 100hp, dyno proven.
This diffuser gives me about 8mph at the top end.

Thanks Bob
do you think my Tea Strainers lose a lot of hp? My 302 should make about 375 max at the flywheel.
After I change a few things I'm going to the dyno.

I'm limited on the size of the filter because

I have read that the screens you are using do not lose much. They're supposed to be very efficient. Looking at your set up, I probably wouldn't change anything. I have considered buying some of those screens for track day.

jaspittman,
Very nice work. I think the trumpets affect performance in a positive way. Looks like your filters sit on throttle body. Do you have any idea if eliminating the trumpets has any effect vs sitting on the throttle body like you have done?
I suppose the bottom plate bolts to the throttle bodies from inside. Looks good.

As long as I can keep small children and flying squirels from being inhaled I'm OK. I think about the consequences of running without an Air Filter assembly, but just don't want to cover the carb bodies, which is what an efficient filter would do. They just look SOOOO good!

I'm running IDF's, and this filter may cause you some clearance issues, but here it is anyway...

speedway motors has a pretty good selection of filters for injectors in sprint racing, here is a small selection, their catalog has more or maybe find some more on the website.

hi
i got these trumpets with screen filters on it
drive with them for more than 6000 miles... i have no problems with it...
why are you so worried to drive with "normal" screen filters?

YOU may not have a problem with "it", but your engine sure will. Why not go ahead and dump a can of sand down the venturies and get it over with.

Webers just breathe better with open stacks and light screens.
Considering that Cobras do not make many miles anyway and that anything that will outlive me (I am 62) is just not a consideration anymore, running Webers with screens just to keep the rocks out is plenty enough.
I'll let my heirs take care of the rebuilt.

I've rebuilt countless race engines that were run without filers (Triumph (motorcycle & car), H-D, Jaguar, MG, Ford, Datsun, etc. After three or race weekends the motors were ready for a rebore. Putting a low resiriction airfilter on those same engines did not result in lower laps times & allowed the engine to last an entire season. Resulting teardown s showed negligible wear.
Your choice.

I've ran several weber systems with K&N filters similar to those in post # 16 above. They ran great. A properly designed air filtration system will not impact a weber system that is jetted for it. It does take exra effort to set up however, and some people take a convienent shortcut then justify it by stating, "it runs better without filters"
total hogwash.

Eljaro, If you were in the business of rebuilding performance / race engines and got to see the damage to cyl walls/pistons/rings from running them without airfilters on a more regular basis AND then had to repair that damage , I think you would change your mindset on this. There is enough work in building good engines without creating a reason to do it all again in a short time, still there are plenty of threads on this site from people who seem to like doing everything twice or even three times!!
