Thanks Bob
do you think my Tea Strainers lose a lot of hp? My 302 should make about 375 max at the flywheel.
After I change a few things I'm going to the dyno.

I'm limited on the size of the filter because

I have read that the screens you are using do not lose much. They're supposed to be very efficient. Looking at your set up, I probably wouldn't change anything. I have considered buying some of those screens for track day.

jaspittman,
Very nice work. I think the trumpets affect performance in a positive way. Looks like your filters sit on throttle body. Do you have any idea if eliminating the trumpets has any effect vs sitting on the throttle body like you have done?
I suppose the bottom plate bolts to the throttle bodies from inside. Looks good.

I bought a screen to make my own box but just haven't gotten around to building it. These threads always have a lot of great options but nothing ever looks just right. No offense to anyone & their projects(many of them look awesome!), just that its tough to make something that looks as cool as a set of open Webers.

So Bob, do you think my filters are good for street driving?
I love the look of the open webers but I concerned about dirt in the motor.
jaspittman, I like the look of your set up. Is the base aluminum also?
Where did you get the filters? What size are they?
Dwight

a very legitimate concern. You can bore out a motor rapidly driving without air cleaners.

Yeah, I wouldn't be concerned about using those screens on the street at all. Especially under glass like that. You're likely to suck in a leaf or a bird. Lets say they let in enough dirt to decrease service life by 50%. You'll "only" get 50,000 miles between major overhauls. That's what, 10 years? not enough of an issue to worry about.
On the track, I run open trumpets; and K&N's on the street. I overhaul the engine every 2 years or so. There's no measurable wear on the cylinder walls or crank journals.

The velocity stacks are still intact and stick up into the filtered area.

jaspittman,
do you have a picture of your filter with the top off? I would like to see how the velocity stacks enter the base. How far above the base?
Thanks for the picture. I want to build one like yours but not billeted aluminum. I was thinking of thin aluminum sheet with a small edge turned up to hold the filter. Sort of race car design.
What filters did you use?
Dwight
