Float Safety Wire

Are there any tricks to re-installing the safety wire on the float pivot shaft? I am changing the pump exhaust bypass and to get to them, you have to remove the float.

Trying to do this with the carbs on the car and their isn't very much room to work

Or do I just bite the bullet and unbolt the carb to do it?

If you remove the wire and leave it off for your adjustments, this would be fine. However, make sure you reinstall the wire when you feel the exhaust valve is the correct one after your adjustment.

Additionally, leave the carbs on the motor and get yourself a pair of needle nose or surgical pliers.

Also make sure you sure a nice sized flat head screw drive so you dont strip the exhaust valve and float holding screw.

Another trick on the float screw is to use a flat head bit with a small wrench to get in the tight areas or use a socket and ratchet

you can use ignition pliers (Sears has some good ones) with some masking tape on the jaws. That never fails & doesn't leave the screw marred.

As far as the safety wire goes, if you try to reuse it, it isn't "safety" wire anymore. Always use new wire.

The FE's with the fuel lines to the inside are considerably more difficult. Invest in a pair of short handled safety wire pliers, great for doing the wheels too.
