Default Seat Belt Harness Installation

Hi everyone,

I've just registered for the club and looking information on the proper way to install a four or five-point harness. I'd like to hear from anyone who did the install themselves, difficulties encountered, and vendor harness recommendations. Also any suggestions which type of harness type is better: The Y Type pull down, individual pull down or V- Type pull down.

I know there is a wealth of knowlegde "out there" and would like to tap it.

Thanks,

Frank

Badman:

Simpson - 5 point, 3" wide, Y- pull down, "Cam Lock", Black, very comfortable and very happy with the install I did. Everytime I get behind the wheel, "Strap Myself In", read too many stories lately of cobra accidents. Wife complains about being "Strapped In", too bad!!! I feel better and so should she or anyone else that gets in the car.
They are very pricy but how much is it worth to you and your passenger to stay in the car and not become a projectile, or a new dash or hood ornament.
Be safe, spend the bucks.
Jim

The harness that you select will also depend on how you plan to use it. Some of the harnesses (Y-type for example) are not approved by all race sanctioning bodies. Of course if you only plan on street use then this does not matter. As for me I went with the Simpson Cam-lock 5-point, 3", individual clip-in harness. The adjusters are pull down for the shoulders and pull up for the lap belts, which works better due to the limited space in my Lister. The clip-ins allow easy removal when they are not needed like during interior work or when they need to be sent in to be re-webbed every 2 years, etc. There has been a ton of info posted on this site regarding belts so I recommend that you do a search for this as well. I do recall reading some fairly enthusiastic posts that will leave you wondering why you ever asked... ;-)

Default Harness type

Keep installation in mind, especially if you plan on doing a passenger seat that does not have a roll bar. I bought the Y type
shoulder harness with that in mind.. The only place I could get access to the frame (with out major reconstruction) was at the rear of the car (under the battery box) as it turns out this was the most efficient angle to have the harness mounted anyway!!
I bought these for street use at Summit for $70 each.
