				 An Anniversery of Sorts
 Hey Everybody….
This weekend we reset the clocks. That means we trade one night with an extra hour of sleep for months of darkness. (Read that word ‘darkness’ to mean ‘COLD’.)

Coincidentally, this weekend would be the anniversary of the day I acquired the donor car for my Cobra Build.
It was Sunday morning, a lovely fall day. I was out early in my Mustang, top down and enjoying the morning.
I saw a 1992 Mustang GT Hatchback that had been rear-ended during the over night hours. I got out to investigate and saw a very clean car with only 75K miles on it. Unfortunately for someone, this car was obviously totaled. A note on the windshield – and the rest is history. I ended up purchasing my donor for $650 delivered to my garage.

Now y’all might think that was a great deal. And yea, it should have been. However, I ended up with what would be considered a non-donor build. Meaning, I never used much of that Mustang.

Okay, before anyone thinks I made a bad investment I need to tell you one more thing. I still have the Motor and Transmission etc. from that car. I am, currently cleaning up that motor and telling my wife that I plan on rebuilding it. That’s right that same donor Mustang, that same $650, will be used again -- to justify the next project to Judy.

Now the best part is she is going along with it, life is GREAT (don’t tell anyone but I will not use the motor this time around either!)

Name withheld on request (wives read these things too)

I really can identify with the non-donor donor build. If things go as I plan them next spring I will have two 302s and one used t-5 gathering dust in my shop. Of course, one could go into the 68 mustang convert I just acquired for my future driver, but then I'd have a 302 & a 289. Some things just happen over & over again. Oh and the mustang is RED too!

 Mike,
What do you plan on transplanting the 302 with? I am still up in the air. A FRPP 345HP 302 replacement would be easier and I could reuse parts. A 347 maintains the easy factor (do not need to widen the side pipe holes and worry about hood clearance). But then a 351, 392 and even a stroked 427 come to mind. Need to make as close to the right choice as I can.

Michael,CONGRATULATIONS, on the acquisition of your next project. I am sure the future drive is thrilled.
You know we have a club member that did a total frame-off restoration of a 1968 Mustang. I have seen his pictures of the car on a rotisserie, the whole nine yards – He did a very complete job.

Now, he is in the middle of his Cobra build – he too is doing an FFR. The two of you may have some parts to sell to each other.

Good Luck with the convertible. As for color, well, Eleanor is so popular these days – Silver and Black could correct to error of the current paint job.

Tom - Currently thinking of DSS 331, looking @ D&D peformance 327 or 342, can't figure out why they are so much cheaper than DSS. I like the whole small block idea - see my sig line.
Rich - Who? & I'd love a rotisserie, but I'm not sure how complete the restoration is going to be.

Marty - Toys are SUPPOSED to be RED!

 Michael,
What do you think the chances are if we both ordered from DSS or D&D we could get a discount? Have you put any thought toward Engine Factory, Coast High or for that matter Roush through Coast? Their prices all seem reasonable. You pay a little more for the Roush, but it is Dynod and has a 2 year warranty. So many choices!!

Have you guys considered PAW (performance auto warehouse) 818-678-3000? I found out about them after I bought my block and stroker kit, but I tell ya, I think I would have gone thier way. You can get an unassembled 351W with your choice of compression (8,9,10) for $1395 short block or $1895 long block. Short block includes, prepped block, crank, pistons, rods, rings, bearings, cam, timing set and all balanced. The long block adds heads, lifters, pushrods, oil pump and gaskets. According to the friend that told me about them, their parts are plenty good for 500 ft lbs of torque and 6000 rpm. Even with stock heads that has got to be a 350hp engine for less than $3000. Squirt it with a little nitrious on race day and you have a great setup. I am pretty sure they have stroker kits and assembly options also.

We don't want you to reverse any of your steps on the way to cobra ownership.
