Default Jag Rear End Tie Bar

I could use some wisdom here......

I took the tie bar off the Jag rear end to replace the dead Holley fuel pump and now am having a tough time getting the tie bar back on. Is there a method? Do I jack the rear end up to take the weight off? Is there another adjustment I'm missing to bring the two fulcrum rods closer together to get the bar to fit?
I'm off about between 1/8 and 1/4 inch and don't want to beat on it or hone out the tie bar. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tim

I've never done it before myself, but just looking at the geometry, I would guess that if you got two helpers and each applied pressure to each of the rear tires simultaneously moving them toward the rear of the car the two lower arm ends would move closer together allowing the tie bar to be slipped over the ends of the pivot bars. Again, not first hand experience, but looking under my car I'm guessing it would work. It certainly couldn't hurt to try! Good luck.

There is a bracket on each side of the differential housing that provide a pivot for the fulcrum rods you are talking about. The only way I can see that you would be having this problem, is if the bolts that mount these brackets to the housing are backing out. Mine are lock wired to prevent this. Better check it out.

They are still lock wired. I got a tie down strap from the trailer and cranked on it to bring fulcrum rods together. It didn't take much pressure and the tie bar slipped right on.

Thanks for the input

There's something wrong here.

If the side brackets are firmly bolted to the differential, you shouldn't be able to move the fulcrum pins. My guess is that the bolts are loose and you've lost the shims between the brackets and the differential. This is not a good thing...

Don't know how I could lose the shims but, I'll look tonight and see if the bolts are loose. It wasn't obvious when I was working on it.

One of the beauties of having a lift!
