				 Not that it would ever fit in a Cobra...Boss 528 BBF Buildup 
 I briefly mentioned this on another thread and thought that since everyone here is a gearhead, it might be neat to start a thread on it.  This is a unique engine and not many people (including myself) get to see one in person. 
Some of you here may know Mark Kassab (username mkassab), he's a Unique owner that I did a 427SBF for several months back.
 
He recently acquired a '70 Mustang and approached me about doing an engine for a Boss 429 clone.  
 
We've spent a great amount of time on the phone and we've narrowed the selection down to a 528ci BBF with Jon Kaase Boss 9 heads.  The direction that we're headed is to have a very streetable engine that will still make gobs of power, while turning the standard accessories:  A/C, P/S, etc, etc.  It will be backed by a Quicktime bellhousing, McLeod RST twin disc clutch, and one of our Semi Pro TKO 600's.  
 
The ordering process has started, the block is being machined, and the parts have started trickling in.  That includes this 1050 Quick Fuel Dominator style carb:
   
The parts list will include:
 
*Scat Forged 4.300" Crankshaft 
*Scat Forged H-Beam 6.800" Rods 
*Diamond Custom Forged Pistons, 12cc Dish 
*Bullet Custom Hydraulic Roller Camshaft 
*Jon Kaase Boss 9 Heads 
*Jon Kaase Single Plane Intake 
*W.W Engineering Roller Rockers
 
This will be a very unique and fun build and I can't wait to get started.  The desired peak power will be just south of 6000 rpm (cam selected to give excellent idle/low-end/mid-range characteristics) and should be north of 700hp.

 I looked into this style engine for a customer last year.  Unless I had the wrong dimensions I was convinced it could fit in the hole with a custom hood scoop? |

 I'm not for sure Jay, I was always under the impression that if a Cammer was a tight fit that required footbox mods, hood mods, etc., that there was no way a Boss 9 engine would fit.  The 460 block is taller, although not by much.  
 May be something to look into.
 
 This is an engine where it's possible to have your cake and eat it too.   Gobs and gobs and gobs of horsepower and torque, but completely streetable and mild mannered.

 AC for a boss?????
 If you have space problems for power brake booster with the taller block---think about using master cylinder and hyd booster from the late mustands--hyd from the power steering--much more compact and no vacume problems

 Jerry, I will advise the customer on that.  I can see where there would be clearance issues between the valve cover and the booster. |

 I looked at this once and going with floor mounted pedals like the CSX4000 cars and some other manufacturers now would eliminate the booster clearance issue but the motor is taller so you would need modified hood/scoop and of course with the wide motor and big heads how much foot box room would you need to give up. I beleive there was a post last fall that someone was actually putting a Boss 9 in a Cobra...

 It can be done with some foot box mod's and some repositioning of things.  A low profile air cleaner is a must if you don't want to modify the scoop. Aviaid makes a road race pan that sat 1/4" above the frame rail, so that works, but I was not crazy about the pan, so had a one built by Olson (much better).  Anyway, it has been done. |

If so, what is the plan?  Because that motor will not fit between those of a standard mustang.

 He and I have already discussed that part.
 Mark is actually having the Weavers (Unique Motorcars) finish this car for him.  It's getting an MII front suspension and a new rearend with coilovers.  Basically a make-over.  Part of the discussion involved replacing the shock towers.
 
 He's also having the same guy build his headers that Jon Kaase and Stacey David got to build theirs.  I think they are stepped, 1-7/8" to 2-1/4".
 
 Should be a nice ride...
