Maybe Pat can help too - how to properly foam and tape a roll bar so it looks like an insulated HVAC line.

Looking at the original question, I think the cost of a CSX roller is probably equal to that of both the ERA and the SPF combined. Not that the quality is any better (It's probably not as good as either the ERA or the SPF), but the CSX name alone is without question worth a premium. SPF is a high quality factory build and has many satisfied owners, and ERA is without a doubt the best fiberglass hand built car available. Each car has loyal owners who will swear by them. I am completely satisfied with my own ERA and have no desire to change it for something else (besides, the ERA looks as real as any original and often has original vintage running gear). The extra fifty grand would be better spent on a good used Z06, M3 or E type Jag.

SPF - $41,000.00
Csx - $49,000.00
ERA - $44,000.00
Pretty sure thats right , Csx is fibreglass

That ERA price is less paint and includes transmission. The Richmond tranny was $2000; paint on a bare glass car is $5,000 and up depending on what kind of finish you want.

SPFs are complete, ready for an engine and tranny, away you go, factory paint job.

CSX... I don't know if that price includes paint. Seems unlikely. In fact, that price seems a little low for a glass CSX roller; it means the finished price would be around $65k, the same as a well-done ERA. I suspect paint and other things are not included in that $49k.

You can find CSX glass rollers fully painted in the low $40K range.

I don't think the manual is a big issue with the CSX as the vast majority of CSXs are fitted out by dealers to completion. A manual would be helpful though regardless.

I also believe that the vast majority of owners of glass CSX Cobras are very happy with the quality of their cars.

While both ERA and SPF are great cars and excellent products I can't think of a reason to justify buying either of them over a Shelby for the prices noted above. There would have to something very specific about the ERA and SPF that I really valued or wanted to make me opt for them over the Shelby at those prices. At those prices there are just too many reasons making the Shelby the best buy, quality being comparable on all three.

One key reason to choose an SPF or ERA over a CSX car, would the subjective (handling, ride, seating position, etc.) characteristics that can't be resolved on a spreadsheet. We have a local Cobra Club member (Panavia) who owns an SPF and is the process of building a CSX car. It's always interesting to get some input from people who have owned both cars and offer the pros and cons of each.

The list price for a painted CSX roller is $49K. A local guy picked up a roller for under $45K...don't know how many of those deals are out there, but I would imagine there are a few.

PANAVIA paid $40K or $41K fo his CSX, but someone here on CC just recently claimed that dealers that sell or sold CSX's under MSRP will lose or lost their CSX license to sell.

Hmm...wouldn't that be price fixing? There was a guy from a dealer in Fresno that used to drop in from time to time offering deals. They may not be able to advertise the deals, but I'm sure they'll deal.

Next chapter of my manual.

Chapter 4 - Testing The Accuracy of Your Gas Gauge - Never insert a stick into the gas tank. This is too simple and way too easy. First, fill tank. Second, drive car continually over many weeks, even months, never filling tank again. Check gas gauge. Third, check gas gauge, then pick up buddy at buddy's house and make sure it's a beautiful Saturday morning on your way to a Cobra breakfast. Car runs out of gas on road. Check gas gauge, still reads full. Go back to first page of chapter.

I probably fall into the 'subjective' category and am going with ERA. What I am after is somewhat off the beaten path ... here's why:

- I want a 289 car with a grille
- I prefer the FIA body, over the slab side (or 427 body) --- no offense intended
- Am 6'-4" --- and ERA has a few tweaks (as do others) to get 'bigger guys' to fit into a 90" wheel base car
- Add in a custom roll bar setup and the ability to pick and choose different suspension options, for me ERA is the way to go

Kirkham would have been wonderful ... but realistically out of my price range. A CSX 7000 or CSX 8000 would work too, but for me personally at this point, not worth the premium. SPF to my knowledge does not offer a 289 car at this time.

The only downside from my perspective with ERA is the wait, but I knew that going in and that's part of the process. I don't have the car yet ... but will soon

Another important factor in my mind, is no matter which company you choose to go with ... CSX, SPF, ERA, Krikham ... (you name it) is to have close working relationship with the people that help you fulfill your dream. I have a lot of respect for all of these cars and companies, it's nice to have a choice.

ITS funny we've all heard of SPF and CSX cutting prices and dealing But it seems as ERA is raising them , must mean something
