I had a BG - it was junk. Warped, cracked and the dyno guy told me he could spend a couple of days with it in a machine shop, and it still would not be 100%. He suggested a Quik-Fuel. Beautiful piece. Out of the box, couple of tweeks and adjustments on the dyno and makes perfect A/F ratio. Runs like a scalded dog. Now, I'm no specialist, but I must say that the dyno don't lie. If your carb is not set-up properly on a dyno by a highly qualified dyno tech - making good "safe" power you will be at risk of ruining your new engine. Trust me on that one.

Jason,
are you parting with the 830 then? Is it the HP version and if so, what model #,? How old, etc? I've had really good luck with my 830 setup with my cam/heads, etc. If you are getting rid of it I'll keep it in the back of my mind to have a 2nd carb to tweak with to have one set up for Winter and one for Summer driving so I don't have to rejet for Summer.

Dont want to get too off subject here. But I have a 427 srtw making 467 @ the wheels and I run a 950cfm holley 4150 hp no choke. 71's in primaries and 76's in secondaries at sea level. We spent alot of time on the dyno. My 427 srtw also has a vic jr intake.

I love the carb.... very smooth throughout the whole power band. NO hesitation. I hated the 750 street avenger. We could never get the hickup out of it.

Some say 950 cfm is too much carb... No way. Fords like alot of carb compared to a SBC. A 427 has no prob swallowing all that air. Also, you can see from the dyno sheet that it makes over 400 rwtq at just 2500 rpm.

I hope this helps with your decision.

If you truly believe this, name one class of racing where a stock carb with a dyno tune is the preferred carb. Nobody making serious power is using a stock carb, period. A stock carb is fine for a no power crate engine, or a paper weight in the absence of a snow globe, but that's about it.

$6-800 for a "supercarb"? this is standard off the shelf, and some of us don't drive the dyno.

I spent $400+ on my last BG and after cleaning it out and having it dialed in, it cost me at least $800.

So, if I can buy an already dialed in carb for the same money, I'll save myself the time and hassle.

So far, Pro Systems gets the nod.

after reading the first couple of posts I emailed Pro Systems about building a carb for my GT-350 w/ vintage Paxton. A no go unfortunately.

They apparently have a 750 hp minimum for blow thru carbs. & 400 HP minimum otherwise. So they won't build a carb for my stock GT-350 w/ Paxton, or my 347 stroker w/ Paxton. However I might qualify if take the Paxton OFF the 347.

I ran into the same thing an my 427 Galaxie as I wanted him to work on my original carbs . However , at least to me , it`s refreshing to find someone who doesn`t try to be everything to everyone and tells you up front when he can`t/won`t be able to do something .
My Cobra carb is supposed to ship on the 23rd according to Patrick .... Happy New Year ( maybe Merry Christmas ?? ) to me !

zRay, too bad that Pro Systems doesn't do carbs for your application, but it shows their integrity in that they would not sell carbs knowing that they would not be the best for you.

zrayr - interesting in their response as for some reason they must have changed their policy:

Cuz, several years ago, Patrick at Pro-Systems built a custom 780 Holley for blow thru application for my ball drive Paxton Supercharger upgraded to VR-4 racing specs for my 351 W . It was a beauty right out of the box . Bill

Z, there's no replacement for displacement. Sure' little engines can really go fast, but how radical will they have to be and how long will they last? My jumbo rat has over 25K on it, runs in the 10's, and has never had the valve covers off. I do keep it under 6600 RPM, but then, that's humming right along.

Pro-Systems carb being used in video at bottom with Roush 427R single plane intake. Rear wheel corrected HP dyno chart in my gallery.

I put the Pro-Systems mechanical secondary carb on my Roush 427R single plane intake manifold with 3.73 rear gear and 28 inch tall drag radials, .64 5th TKO. The carb was the 1040 cfm. There have been many posts about how this can't be done and drive on the street. I'm not quite sure what the resistance is about, it hammers street or strip and pulls 5th gear farting along at 1800 RPM too. Just ask Patrick what to do and he'll set you up.

My original carb that came on the engine as delivered was a mechanical secondary Holley 750 double pumper. The engine installer jacked that one up pretty bad leaving me looking for new ideas. You'd think it wouldn't be hard to send out the engine for a given DA, car weight and purpose. Anyway I did get the Holley 870 Avenger next as recomended by the Superformance dealer that sold the car with the Roush engine. I don't think they had a clue looking back at the situation. The Avenger went in the trash can after trying to make it work half way decent for a good month.

Get the Pro-Systems and don't look back.
