Interesting. That also might have the added benefit of reducing wind buffeting at speed.

Maybe it's just the way I sit in my car, but by the time my head hits the roll bar, the damage to my spine has already been done.
Headrests attached to the rollbar seems to be the best way to go, safety wise.
Now, has anyone designed one that actually looks good?

Quite a serious issue here. Even though I don't have a padded bar, I should know better. Back in '85, my ex-wife was seriously injured when she crashed her Jeep CJ and hit her head on her unpadded roll bar. Even though she appeared to recover (she experienced short term memory loss for several days), she was never quite the same after the accident (I'm not being a smart ass here). Probably better off without any roll bar on these cars, as a turnover is quite rare. The best bet would be a padded bar with a SNELL rated helmet. That bar can kill you.

Overlooked here is the fact that in a frontal impact you can eat the windshield-even with a 3" five point harness.

These cars are anything but safe. Maybe that's some of the attraction here, along with the power. Just more reason to drive with your head screwed on straight.

I used some high density roll bar padding that I bought from Pegasus.
I was concerned that it would look ugly.

It's amazing how much room they have once you are inside it.
A good friend of mine has two of the original Mini's, and one of the new ones. In fact, his Cooper S is the last one that was sold in Portland by Monte Shelton.
One of those cars that you do not see every day on the road. Kind of like a Cobra, but much slower.

Thanks.
It was.
I never liked saying that I had a Mini Woody so I traded it for a Caterham 7
with a DOHC Toyota engine. Much faster.

Not to hijack the thread, but along the same lines, I plan to remove the roll bar on the car I am getting. #1 it's thin wall and would be useless in a rollover anyways and #2 it is too short to do me any good regardless. So....running without a rollbar, I have considered wearing a racing style neck brace. Anyone have any experience with these? I would be worn so it wouldn't affect the aesthetics of the car and it would probably help the snapping of my neck in the event of a fender bender. Any thoughts?

So Jamo, did it look something like this when you were in the Mini?

I have definitely been using the wrong plumbing company.
