Can you guys sell 500 raffle tickets at $20 each for
that motor? I'm in for a bunch if you do.

Doug, hang in there buddy.. Looks like CC will help you out. Keep a positive attitude.

That's a great idea if Doug will go for it. Ideally in a raffle we could closer to $15k for it. I wonder how many we could sell at $25-$50 a pop?

Heck, for $10k, I bet KC might buy it back. That motor's north of $17k (not sure of options or which 482, but the KC Pond 482 is $17.2k).

Guys, I'm still here. I haven't responded all that much because quite honestly this is just so totally overwhelming. You guys are just incredible, I am floored by your kindness and generosity. As I said earlier, I am unable to find the words to express my gratitude. No matter where this all ends up leading, if anywhere, please know that I am just stunned and humbled by you all. What an incredible, amazing group of guys.

All, one correction if I may- I sourced the cam, lifters, heads, distributor and carb for the aluminum sideoiler stroker engine from Keith Craft, and he worked on the ports of the intake. However, the engine was assembled by a local FE specialist on Long Island in NY named Tony Carey, he's one of ERA's preferred builders. Tony's been building almost exclusively FE's for about 40+ years, and the engine is an absolute jewel. The engine has lots of custom touches to it in an effort to make it look as original as possible, while being as light and powerful as possible.

I'd be up for donations or a raffle! Anything to help a man down. Never leave a man behind.....or his cobra

KevinW 08-12-2010 05:27 PM

I cant help this side of the atlantic, but im happy to paypal something or buy some raffle tickets.

I am sure there are a few more UK cobra guys who'd do the same.

my auntie (64) has grade 3 breast cancer, still leading a normal life (and she aint slim!) 5 years post diagnosis, (surgery + chemo) although she now has some arthritis from the meds. Good luck with it all.

randlej 08-12-2010 06:44 PM

I'm in for a donation and raffle if there is one. Watching and waiting for the details.

209 08-12-2010 07:02 PM

I'm in for the raffle or just donation. Just let us know. Doug, our hearts go out to you. Cliff

James Stern 08-12-2010 07:25 PM

I'm in for either donation or raffle, or both. I have a few parts laying around if needed. It's great to be a part of this community.

A dream should not have to die as long as the car and the dreamer are on both still on terra firma. I say let's have a donation AND a raffle and help this car come to life. Like I said in my email Doug, I'll even help you wrench on that POS J**p if need be, but let's get this Cobra up and running some way some how.

Jim

Sorry to hear everything bad is kicking in all at once, but things will get better! While I am on the wrong coast to lend an actual hand, I'll throw a donation into the pot to make this happen.

I am not from UK, but Denmark. Reading through this story, I almost cried myself. 10 months ago, I had my own house, my own company, my first car project (A vw beetle completely restored) that I bought back after a sale + I had 2 other dream projects + 3 dream guitars (Daions) that I loved to play.

Than I got sick due to a serious moldproblem in my house. No insurrance to cover it, so everything had to go. My cars, my guitars - everything that could sell for a few bucks. The last 3 months, I have been rebuilding my house top to bottom, and in 1 week it will be completely done. So the project is almost completely finished.

Doing this time, the one thing that kept me going, was the fact, that I still had my Cobra kit. I did put it up for sale, and that broke my heart big time. It also took most of my energy out of me, because why should I care anymore? Now, I am SO pleased, that it didnt sell. Yes, I might have lost almost everything else, but you know what? My dream is still possible, and I KNOW yours are that as well. That is something worth a LOT more than money.

One thing to think about as well. Worst case senaria. You dont survive this. What will your daugther say to this, if you sold the one thing that made you happy just before that? It will be important to her, to keep it, in this case. It will be a huge part of you, that she will treasure big time.

So trust me on this, take one of the offers. Also take a break once in a while from the stress, and just work on the car. It brings a LOT more peace and rest than a good nights sleep.

All I can say is: How can I help? I am also looking for the paypal info. I dont have any parts, but I can make donations.

As Kev says, There's a few of us over the other side of the pond that are willing to help a fellow Cob owner who's short of luck.

I've just climbed Kilimanjaro for Cancer Research. If there's anything that I can help with just shout out!

Keep the car if you can, we all need something good to focus on when everything else seems bad!

I think it is time my Signature line is as it was years ago for Jenny.....The thought and theme are the same. Regardless of what bickering goes on, the bottom line is, "We ARE Family!" You have all proved it once again. Just one guy of many who knows what this family can do!

dcdoug 08-13-2010 06:43 AM

I am speaking to the bank today to setup a fund for this effort and will also set up pay pal linked to that account when this is done. I will talk over logistics tomorrow AM with CobraEd. So everyone sit tight for just another day or two and we will get this moving.

I want to make sure we do this right so people feel comfortable in making donations.

Thanks for your patience.

Just saw this thread now, and of course I'm willing to help in any way I can.

It's important for your overall health to have something other than bills for you to focus on, and your Cobra build is the perfect thing to aid in your recovery. If you really feel you need to sell for cash, do as the others suggest and sell off the engine, but don't let go of your dream. Keep as much as you can. You are so so close and you need this to keep a smile on your face. Things will get better if you just give it a bit more time...

My thoughts and prayers are with you

Ray

OK, I have set up a paypal account that can be used for donations: 767Jockey @ gmail.com (remove the spaces before and after the "@" when you use it in paypal - I did this to cut down on spam). This is a new email and paypal account just for this purpose, so emailing Doug at this address isn't going to get a response (sorry for hijacking your username a bit there Doug, but it is for a good cause ;)).

For those that would rather send a check, I have also set up an account at Citibank. You can make the check out to Doug Marotta directly and I will deposit checks into this account as I get them. PM me for my mailing address.

I have asked Doug what he wants to do on the raffle idea for the 427 and will report back.

Now who is working on logistics for the best way to get this thing finished and getting an inventory of what we need? :)

767Jockey 08-13-2010 02:35 PM

You guys are just amazing. I just don't know what to say. I need to sit and try to compose my thoughs on how to say thank you........I am not optimistic that I will ever be able to do an adequate job of that, but I'll give it my best. At this point I'm just speechless..........you're all just incredible. This is easily the biggest surprise I have ever had in my life.

Thank you all SO much!

Doug

zzmac 08-13-2010 02:35 PM

I just made a deposit to that paypal account and I challenge all Canadian Cobra owners to give a little.

All the best Doug, our thoughts are with you!
