What matters is how much magnesium costs today vs the last time THE WHEELS were produced, not simply displaying the lowering cost of magnesium due to the slowing economy in recent years. Not to mention increased processing costs and increased labor costs. My business in vinyl. Prices skyrocket up and parachute down. Being armed with the current cost of oil doesn't do jack shine to the price I pay.

Currently mg is up 20% from 2001 (when was the last mag run, anyways?). We should compare the cost that M&A bought their magnesium for, compared to what they (or whoever will make them) are paying now, assuming they're FIFO and only have current priced mg on hand. But that's intruding and I don't tell people how to run their business. I suppose if you want to call Richard a liar, just come right out and say it.

What really matters to me is that I (and others) would like magnesium wheels.

You should have known that...off the top of your head

Magnesium is under a buck fifty a pound. Even if that's 20% up from 2001, how could that possibly account for any significant increase?

The ones I just sold where around 20 lb’s boxed each, but one of the new owners might chime in.I am all so waiting to see what the cost is going to be on these new ones if and when it may happen, I bet they won’t be cheap.

Even if you doubled, tripled, quadrupled that number it's still pretty much nothing. That's why I stand by my previous bogus assessment.

But mounting my Billboards, the fronts are 35 total and the rears 41 total. My old TD's were 36 and 43.

Dunlop Qualifiers were about 10-12 pounds heavier.

YOU GUYS!!!This is not the same magnesium that goes in your Centrum Senior vitamins.
We're talking about a magnesium alloy, which is more than likely an aerospace grade.
 Geez.
At any rate, the price will be the price. We will decide with our pocket books.

 | Uh-huh... I'll take that as a thinly veiled capitulation. I win. ERA Chas also loses because he aligned himself, ever so slightly, on your side of the debate.

I have no clue about ownership changes. Not really that important to me, unless someone claims their 2001 vintage magnesium Halibrand wheels are worth more than my 2021 vintage.
In this case, I believe in LMMV. Last Made Most Valuable.

My car costs only $1150 in steel. Damnit, I been robbed!!!
For your information, patrickt, I have NEVER capitulated. Not even when I was 13 and saw Holley Haney from across the street in her bikini.

OK, I claim my vintage 1991's are more valuable-more mag, less 'alloy'. They may in fact be lighter than the new batch...

Again, the question may be moot, since production of a new batch is tenuous.
