Glad it looks like you guys will get this done after all the persistence....:) |
I won't believe it until the boxes hit your stoops but having said that, it will be a marvelous testimony to Rodney's persistence, zeal and hard work. I hopefully congratulate Rodney and the guys that get them owe you a big 'THANK YOU'.
Now I've got to get a quote on Brillo on the Bourse and buy 20 or 50,000 shares. I been warnin' you guys, watch out what you ask for...:CRY::CRY: |

Nope, one set of magnesium wheels is more than plenty for me. Rodney, I didn't think Fran would want 10 people calling him with questions, but I do want a few questions answered before sending money. I'll call him next week, if I don't see the answers posted here before then. |

Mag wheel update
In answer to Rodknock's questions:
1. A new technique for coloring will be used. Described as looking accurate. 2. The 'COBRA II' embossing is still up in the air until next week when he speaks to his supplier. 3. He will use the same supplier as before. Nuff said. If you haven't contacted Fran, do so. (412) 441-5750 He hasn't heard from A N Y O N E ! ! ! Learn your backspacing. If you have a CSX or KMP with Trigos, and you have no reason to believe they've been changed, then you can find your backspacing on the Trigo website. I don't want to just give the answer away because ultimately YOU are responsible for knowing your own backspacing. Double check it. PM me so we can leave FORUM alone. :p |
Mag wheel update
Just got off the phone with Fran:
Wheels WILL say "COBRA II"" and "15x7.5" or "15x9.5". They will NOT say "HALIBRAND". He just got off the phone with his supplier. Fran is contantly making MAGNESIUM Kidney Bean and FIA wheels, and his customers read like a who's who of the....Vintage Cobra crowd. Not to mention his own original Cobras. Fran is the real deal. But don't believe me, ask around. If you're not on the list but can offer an opinion of first hand experience with Fran, please do so HERE! Fran WILL offer refunds if the wheels don't get made. Ask around for opinions on his business practices. Then, CALL FRAN!!! With your backspacing. (412) 441-5750 Also, the 'drop' area, which holds the air, will be coated. |
Rod-will the valve stems be inside the web like Trigo or outside like Halibrand? Will the rears have the same radius as Halis or the sharper Trigo look?

I know no one wants the liability of me ordering the wrong backspacing, but can I assume that the standard Trigo offset (front 2.75", rear 3.65") is exactly what I need? More? Less? Trigo Wheels | Wheels For Your Cobra! I've haven't changed anything with my Kirkham. Rodney, what backspacing are you ordering? |
(inhale...exhale)
Good questions. We got those hashed out with Richard, not Fran. I have a sneeeeeeeeeaking suspicion they're just like Halibrand in every regard but I will find out. You know Rod, Fran might want to hear from you, too! In fact, I know he does. :p I will also call one of the K bros and make sure there's no funny business with the Trigo backspacings. Then I'll call Trigo and confirm. Then I'll tuck you in with 4 mini marshmallows in your coco. Why do I get the feeling that there's a couple of ERA guys chomping at the bit? BTW, Fran did say ROMAN NUMERAL II, not Arabic 2 like in the pic. |

Actually, I'm more of a half carrot/half OJ with a shot of wheat grass kinda guy. **) Chas' wheels must be reproductions and that's why they show "II" not "2". |

I have what is probably a dumb question, but I'll ask it anyway.
The Trigos supplied by Kirkham do not have a safety wire holding the KO and wheel on the car. The Kirkham KO's have a pin to hold the KO on the car. So, if and when I get a magnesium wheel, can I continue to use the Kirkham pin design or do I have to switch over to the safety wire method? But I do realize having both the pin and the safety wire would be even better. |
IMPO the saftey wire is more visual than functional, yes I have mine wired, but more of an indicatior than a locking device. Just get yourself a BA lead hammer and beat the spinner on, drive a couple of miles and beat again, oh and don't forget to use anit-seize.

The valve stems can be anywhere WE decide. But may I suggest we ALL agree, and preferrably keep the wheels as ACCURATE (valve on machined area) as possible? brettco is missing. Anyone know him? Could you please please direct him here? This crew is shaping up like that episode of TAXI where Latka gets a local militia to go back to his old country and fight. %/ |

From experience, the stems mounted in the webbing would make wheels much easier to clean/polish. For 'realness', out in the machined area. I think for what may be a continuous run, (especially if manufacturers offer these as options with their builds) the faithfulness to Halibrand makes most sense. |
Confirmed from Fran that the wheels are, how can I put this delicately, derived from the softer edged Halibrand, WITH the valve stems on the lips, where they originally were.
I don't think that will sway anybody one way or another but our list is.....a dynamic one. %/ |

For those who may be waiting for the next production run of Halibrands, the wheels sold by Fran will be made by THE U.S. manufacturer of magnesium wheels. ;) In all likelihood, of course this is pure speculation based upon hearsay, the next run of Halibrands will be made outside the U.S. ;) |
Last bit of info...
David K has confirmed that the Trigos that come standard on Kirkham's are completely stock, no special backspacing.
Mr. Moderator, Please put cement shoes on this thread. I'm done. rodneym |
