Continuation of Thread: Drag race - Kirkham 65 side-oiler vs Ferrari 458 Italia
Tommy, no way to start a new poll on the old thread...you chose to let each member only vote once (which is fine).
So...here's a new poll starting as of February 15, 2011 after you folks met up back East with the firm new rules: Tommy is spotting Blitz .2 on the ET each run, Blitz is using his grooved road racing slicks, and Tommy still has to win all three races.
If I haven't got all of that listed correctly, one of you let me know and we'll make the change. Same for the poll choices...just slapped up two choices (KISS).
P.S. Here's the link to the initial thread: OLD THREAD

Since Tommy doesn't have to race against the tree anymore I'm changing my vote to he wins all 3, despite giving up some time.

Nice runs Tommy, you proved all the naysayers wrong (I wasn't one of them). Cheers.

Sorry... nothing short of a miracle is going to give Dan the taste of victory.
With consistent low 11s under Tommy's belt and the "no drag tire" rule that will catastrophically hinder the Cobra I see no hope, not one time, for the Kirkham. A proven 132 trap speed produced by a self proclaimed novice makes for one mother humpin', lethal exotic.

While I have great respect for both of these guys and the cars involved, we all know that Cobra's can be lethal with the right driver, that said, if the track rules allow Dan to take his car to the limit, this will become a mind game and the one who can floor it without hesitation and concern for what might happen will win and I'm betting Tommy will at one stage of the race get a mind fart that will tell him "hey pal, you are on a fast track in Washington D.C .and maybe, just maybe, at some point in your life you will have a shot at a Supreme Court nomination, thus are you willing to stake your life on this bet?............and I say that with the greatest of respect Tommy.
Whereas Dan, I'm betting, has that killer instinct that compels him to win and thus he says "F*** It", I'm in for the win and he floors it and providing he can keep it straight, he's got a shot at the gold. Dan I'm betting on ya pal.
IMHO.... guys. and I stick with my original vote. the italia messes up and will blow one race.
Cheers, John, AKA, tin-man Zhuhai, P.R.C.

Tin-man, I appreciate the effort to find the logic for supporting the Cobra, but we're about 50 pages of posts into this thread and I ran around 10 runs in the 458. I don't think backing down is really in my vocabulary in this one. Best, Tom

OK, the Ferrari will easily knock off low 11's with anyone behind the wheel. And don't think for a minute that Tom will back off. On the other hand, The Ferrari is not likely to do much better than it did yesterday.
Dan and his Cobra are a different story. Dan is determined, and he has a lot more power and a lighter car. If he can control his wheel spin he has a chance. But he better find some real drag racers to help him get the most out of his car. This is a contest between Dan's driving skill and the Ferrari engineers. Tom is just a spectator who made a good bet.

and that's what makes this race all the more compelling and the reason why I will fly in from China to see who wins. See you in Vegas.........,

More Details?
Tommy/Dan,
Can you give us more details on the renegotiated terms?
What are the "grooved road racing slicks"? Are they new or old?
Are you starting with a tree? Is reaction time/redlighting in play?
Is .2 seconds subtracted from Dan's ET or does he get a .2 second advantage on the tree?
Is the winnner the one with low ET or the first to the finish line?

This has been a fascinating and enthralling read so far.
