Tin-man, I appreciate the effort to find the logic for supporting the Cobra, but we're about 50 pages of posts into this thread and I ran around 10 runs in the 458. I don't think backing down is really in my vocabulary in this one. Best, Tom

and that's what makes this race all the more compelling and the reason why I will fly in from China to see who wins. See you in Vegas.........,

Default More Details?

Tommy/Dan,
Can you give us more details on the renegotiated terms?

What are the "grooved road racing slicks"? Are they new or old?

Are you starting with a tree? Is reaction time/redlighting in play?

Is .2 seconds subtracted from Dan's ET or does he get a .2 second advantage on the tree?

Is the winnner the one with low ET or the first to the finish line?

One update for those playing close attention. For the practice runs, I didn't use Launch Control because I didn't believe it would shift gears for me. Turns out that isn't true. So I can use LC and start from 3500 rpms. I plan to drop the rear tire pressure by about 5-10 psi to make sure I grip. But that should give me a much better start. If I can find some time to get to a track, I'll post the results. -Tom

You are not running wrinkle wall slicks, so be careful with the lower tire pressures.

A wrinkle wall slick works with a lower tire pressure as it allows a very large flat contact patch with the pavement. Your tires will not react the same. In fact it's possible that with lower pressures the tires will cup in the center and you will have less of a contact patch with the pavement.

And what's worse is that they can become very unstable at speed. If you are serious about this, start by lowering them a couple pounds and make a run. Repeat until you feel the times are lower and the car still feels safe.

OK, the Ferrari will easily knock off low 11's with anyone behind the wheel. And don't think for a minute that Tom will back off. On the other hand, The Ferrari is not likely to do much better than it did yesterday.

Dan and his Cobra are a different story. Dan is determined, and he has a lot more power and a lighter car. If he can control his wheel spin he has a chance. But he better find some real drag racers to help him get the most out of his car. This is a contest between Dan's driving skill and the Ferrari engineers. Tom is just a spectator who made a good bet.

This is my feelings as well. The Cobra has the potential for a faster run than the 458. It will be hard for the Cobra to hookup, but if it can it should run a faster time.

I have 3 possible answers to share:

1) 'cos it's happy or excited
2) because the dog is smarter than the tail, otherwise the tail would wag the dog.

or more likely (& my answer to most things)

3) ...because it can!

Definitely number 2.
Thanks, Dimis.

This has been a fascinating and enthralling read so far.

When you have found which one of you is the fastest, you can challange this guy to a race:

Don't let the looks fool you.
