You need to actually set the distributor to 50 D. so that the pulse is occurring 50 d. before TDC the software in the fast system will then allow you to tailor an advance curve that matches what your engine needs. After all that, you can start it and check the advance at a specific RPM where you have a spark advance number lets say it is 28 D. BTDC at 3000 RPM you then hold the engine at 3000 RPM and the timing light should show 28 D. advance if it does not you can either move the distributor till it matches or change the reference angle or change the advance curve. I would probably change the reference angle because you won't effect the phasing of the rotor to distributor contacts that way (assuming you have indexed the rotor at optimum position).
If the system shows 30 D. and your program calls for 28 change the reference to 48 D.
Hopefully you get the idea if you move the distributor you can make it work but it wont be optimum.
