Never Had One Fail?
This information bears out my experiences. After completing my Arntz in 1986, I have driven it hard in Solo2 events, classic car tours and many rallies. Virtually every component has failed in some way over the 25 years I have been thrashing it. I have learned to never depend on one locking system for a critical bolt. For example, the nuts that hold the half shafts to the differential flange are locknuts with lock washers and blue thread locker. That's three ways they are secured. Why? Because they came loose once. Even the castellated nuts on the MG front suspension get thread locker before they are torqued and then the cotter pins goes in. Why? Because when they come loose, the holes in the suspension arms become slots and the steering gets loose. It has happened on all almost the bolts that I trust to flat washers and lock washers. Non-critical parts like the side pipes are ok. If they get loose, they rattle and you know to tighten them up. This is great information, David, thank you.
