I have seriously considered doing another 289 Cobra, instead of a FIA/Race version more of a stocker, wire wheels, no rollbar, underchassis exhaust...but it all depends upon selling the Anglia(wife said 'no more toys, unless you sell one first...') I invested far more in it than I had planned upon you know how it goes you do one thing to it and then you really want to do another... . I just got it finished last spring after a 4yr build and spent most of the summer going thru new build 'teething' problems...never fun to wonder whats going to mess up every time you take it out of the garage...now it runs, drives as it should even though it was on my 'bucket list' of cars I'm sort of bored with it now. It is very fast in a straight line( low 11's in the quarter at a 'test 'n tune' day at Bandimere on MT Sportsman Pro tires), with it's 90" wheelbase and 1850lb weight, under a hard launch, with the Line-lok, it can and will pull the front end off the ground and smoke the rubber all day long. Powered by a well built 383 stroker with 3x2's, dyno'd at 475 hp, race Prepped Powerglide, 9'' Currie rearend w/4.10's. Flip/removable 'glas front, tubbed, full cage...all the goodies. It gets horrid gas mileage showed it a few times last summer and won 2 Best of Shows. It has heat/AC, stereo, and always turns heads. I have around $60K in it and would probably lose a lot if I sold it right now...so a new Cobra project is out for now unless a buyer comes along

Default One in a long line

I'm still in love with mine, but I know some day she'll go off down the road with someone else driving. My Cobra represents a long line of cars, each sold to buy the next, stretching back to high school. A GT40 has always been the ultimate goal, and it's next now, so some day the Cobra will be given up in order to attain the final one. I'm getting older, too, so it may be sooner than later. I'd like to be able to actually drive and enjoy the '40......

I sold my last cobra to help buy a business. Ever since, I have been putting away a little $$ if business and family allows. Once I can afford it, I will get another cobra or perhaps a Cheetah or a Brunton super stalker or something along that line that can do burnouts while going 50mph .

My guess is that nearly all cars are sold from their original owner sometime. I think a lot of Cobra's that are sold relatively shortly after they are bought or built is likely because the person did not completely understand what they were getting. It is not a boulevard cruiser. It is a noisy, smelly, dangerous, overpowered, not very comfortable, good weather car. I can't imagine having one to be mainly a show car. I plan on keeping and driving mine as long as I can...then I'll propably make a lamp out of it.

Great discussion! Let me cone it down a bit...what about the high buck CSX and Kirkhams, billet everything...you know, stack injection...the WORKS. Clearly a dream build. They turn up on the market quite often as well, and always sell for a loss. What about those? The folks that build those don't get into financial trouble, i suspect.

i dont know....those super $ builds/csx/stack injection/etc....i dont know how you could drive it after having all of that on it.
i have 2200 miles on mine in the first season, and its amazing how much crap is kicked up on the shiny parts already. and i only take it out when it is sunny and nice! no way could you keep it all clean and nice looking. even my lemans stripes near the front end have little chips in it now.

i think if i had a fancy kirkham or csx, i would need a 2nd replica to replicate it.

maybe that's why they are sold. spend $150k on a car you dont drive too much? but i would still do it

Default why im selling my 1969 GT500 Shelby Cobra

When my Father passed away, his GT500 Shelby Cobra was in the garage under a car cover. It is in my mothers name and she wants me to help her sell it. It would be better in this situation to sell rather than to give to one family member and the others fight over it. Let's face it, it is an original classic and who wouldnt want to possess it? So now, its for sale. Hard to do but looking for real buyers.

I was very surprised when I went shopping and found so many Cobras less than 2,000 miles. The typical story was the build was "money no object", wanted the best of everything. After delivery and the first few rides, it wasn't what they wanted. Wife or kids would not go with him. It was either too cold or too hot to go for a ride. These were people that would be happier in a Vett. The T-shirt about a Cobra is stinky, loud, uncomfortable, etc is right. It sure helps to keep it if your wife enjoys the ride.

I think many of these cars were built as a challange and not to keep and drive. Some get carried away during the build.I also think a lot of people don't know what a hand full these cars are to drive and own. They are not always a plesure to drive

Many don't know until too late what these things are about, can do, and how much trouble they can be........BUT NOT ALWAYS A PLEASURE TO DRIVE??
If you have passion for the Cobra you never, ever, begin stepping into the cockpit without the giddish knowledge that ....."oh boy....here we go again" feeling! I just logged the 30,400th mile on my 'cheeene" and I can't wait until Sat when I do it again. My drives are usually 4 hours. But you are correct.....it's not for everyone and surely not for most! But of those it is for.......well, you guys know who you are!. I believe I will have one until I'm on the other side of the divot!
