Genuine question. Is this really necessary?

I mean wont your fluid levels (fuel in particular) bugger that number up anyway, not to mention a passenger, or gym bag, or tools in the boot.

I was of the impression that close in enough is good enough, unless your racing for $$$ whereby every tenth counts...
