There is a distinct difference in sound between SB engines ( even those that are stoked) and BB motors especially to those who have been around these cars along time like me. There just is.

Well - you all made me have to Goggle it but here is one major reason an FE and a SB will never sound exactly alike.

FE Firing Order 15426378

SB Ford Firing Order 13726548

Depending on the exhaust set up the exhaust pulses are going to create a distinct sound.

I'm no expert but something tells me this does explain quite a bit! Yes, I'm in the camp that BB and SB do not sound the same. That's not to say a SB can't sound great!

The 289 and early 302 used the same 15426378 firing order as the FE.

Your can run either cam. There are still a lot of SB running the older firing order.

I am running a 347 with the new firing order. Most people who hear it swear it is a BB. Some of those people were gear heads. I not saying they sound the same. I am saying the difference is not so overwhelming that anyone can tell the difference.

As I stated before, opinions we all have and on that we can all agree.Certainly have no desire to butt heads on a subject with such strong opposing opinions, they never go anywhere and certainly accomplish nothing.

I think OldDog has stumbled on the answer. The SB owners simply can't tell the difference. It makes perfect sense for them not to own an FE. In fact, I kind of wish I couldn't tell the difference -- it would have saved me a couple of bucks. But, unfortunately, I can.

Yes, but I love myself... and that's what's most important.
