I think it's understandable why someone with an Audi R8 thinks they can take the typical Cobra. Consider these stats for a stock 2009 R8:
0-60 3.9 seconds
1/4 mile 12.01 at 119 mph
Top speed 196 mph
The majority of the Cobra replicas I've seen at the track run in the mid 12's and certainly can't do 196 mph. Cheers.

This old yarn?
For the most part I'd say Twin Turbo is right on. Plus he said "what he's seen at the track".
Even though that Kirkham's KC motor wasn't run of the mill (@ 715 HP), the Audi, Ferrari, et al, has DECADES of engineering.
Plus, Supercars take NO SKILL at the strip. And on the street, those cars are over glorified Camrys.
My Cobra (any Cobra) is exciting just backing out of the driveway
That 700+(reportedly) fwhp Kirkham certainly can't be considered typical of the cars on this site or the FFR forum site that I frequent on a regular basis. I belong to a Cobra club with over 40 members and most of the cars in our group run from 12-13 seconds, regardless of big or small block. Are there exceptions, sure. My Cobra replica is faster than that Kirkham, but I'm making generalities here. Cheers.

Says the guy with the twin Paxton blowers on his all aluminum FE.
As I said, cite some statistics from somewhere, maybe a link to the results of your local club. Or how about results the London show or similar race event where they have a wider pool of results. I'm a Joe Friday kinda guy, "Just the facts ma'am."

I'm also kinda doubting that most R8 drivers could achieve these results likely from a magazine and driver of some unknown origin. I've seen a few R8's running around my neighborhood and the drivers don't usually look like the Michael Andretti types.
RodKnock, as I'm sure you know, original Cobras ran in the 12's to the 13's per all published accounts that I've read. Heck, Powerblock TV ran an original 427 (non-competition) against a Coyote powered FFR Cobra. The original went 14 seconds and the supposed 500 hp FFR went 12.8 in the 1/4.
No doubt most R8 drivers can't drive their cars to their full potential, but the same applies to us as well. Our cars will bite us the second we take them for granted. Cheers.

There is always going to be a faster car out there, no matter what you drive, but none of them feel like a Cobra, that's the thrill of our cars, all the new cars kinda feel the same...
Not to belabor the point here, but just the folks who I watch post here on this forum (I've never been the FFR fourm), most folks have a Roush-type (or similar) SBF with 500-600 HP or an FE with a 500-700 HP. And the latest replicas tend to have lower weight than an original due to the use of aluminum components. For example, my Kirkham is 2100-ish lbs, and more HP than the originals.
All I'm trying to say or figure out is when folks take Cobra's racing at the various events around the country, like SAAC, London or Run & Gun, which should have a wide sampling, I wonder how all the replicas do with what you would think are experienced drivers.
I get all kinds of guys in a variety of cars from ricers to suv's try to engage me.
I was sitting at a light in a questionable part of town one day when a guy pulls up next to me in his beater Honda. His arm, which is hanging out the window, is bigger than my leg. He revs the Honda and looks over at me. Then he says "wanna race?" At that point, I could have been a dick and laughed at him (he had his girlfriend sitting next to him) and really started something. But I thought better and after looking his ride over said "sure, but you gotta give me a head start!" He busted up laughing, saved face with his girlfriend and I lived to drive away.
Love this answer because it's non threatening and everyone gets a laugh out of it! I too get the Beemers,Audi's and Caddy's speeding past me - They'll show me how fast their fleased vehicle is! These folks are just trying to reassure themselves of their masculinity. There's something about a 700hp 2500lb snake that say's,,,nothing to prove here!
LOL I thought I was the only one... I just smile and move one, that really pisses them off. Friday I left UNO's Chicago Grill car cruise and this "kid" with a Hemi-Cuda pulls next to me from the Car Cruise taunting me by revving his engine. I revved mine back but with no intentions to race him (wife in the car!!!!!!!!!!)
This idiot gunns his Cuda fishtailed and went ahead of me, about 3 secs down the road I see this cloud of black smoke so bad that I could not see in front of me....you will never guess---- that gunning cost him his engine, he blew a piston!!! Oh well unfortunately that is how they learn not to be stupid.
I hate to think that way but it was stupid on his part.

That wasn't because of the way he was driving, it was because his engine was a DODGE...POS...
