... and children will still cry when they peer in to the open engine bay and find there is no FE in there.

I guess I riled the FE owners with my old school comment. Forgive me for I have sinned.

Ok, confession time... I don't know squat about Ford motors. None of em. I'm used to going balls to the wall in a C6 Z06 Corvette - LS7, 500 hp, damn fine motor. BUT, I've wanted a cobra for 37 years, and I finally picked up my first, last week, from Jay @ VMS. It has a carbureted 496 c.i. FE motor, and for my money - just wouldn't be right without it. Hell, I could sit in it in the driveway, and just listen to it thump until it ran out of gas. (but of course I won't) That's my take on it...

Exactly what I was thinking when I wrote the thread title. Guess it all depends on your perspective.
It's all good.

Go 427W EFI and aluminum heads and save the 200lbs on the nose and laugh all the way through the turns. And save the $$$ from an FE.

U might be better served by providing Horsepower and TQ desires. What do u plan to do with the car?
A stack injection will calm a large camshaft.

I already have a 770hp/760tq GT500 and a 575hp/600tq 04 Cobra.
I am looking for a great sounding cobra that has great street manners.
I EFI for the reliability and easy starting but also want an eight stack system for looks. Yes I admit it.
Probably 425-475hp with similar torque. Some lopey idle is nice but not so much it sounds like it is going to stall every second.
My wife wants to drive it as well so I will be having power brakes and possibly power steering. Yes I know...just buy a new corvette......
I like the fact that the 427W is much lighter on the nose and handles better.
I respect others that have the true cobra period correct look and feel. I just want something that is fun.

If you have a concern about weight and handling, then a Kirkham Cobra with an all-aluminum FE weighs in around 2,100 lbs. Most other Cobra replicas weigh-in around 2,500 +/-.

Or a JBL with a small alloy Windsor or LS series engine.
Just saying.

I tried getting an answer before, but what is the weight distribution of a Kirkham like yours and have you ever put your car on a scale as Is/race weight? I've seen the weight put at anywhere "guessing" from 1900 to 2400 with an FE, but no actual numbers. I'd guess the aluminum FE would shave off around 200 pounds vs iron which puts it back in to sbf weight (not really comparable, but my fiberglass backdraft is 2434 48.5/51.5 rear bias with somewhere between 10 and 12 gallons of fuel, with about 30 pounds of misc junk in the trunk and a Windsor, so I can see the aluminum body and billet parts of the Kirkham shaving off a couple hundred pounds).

Kirkham has personally put a couple 427 cars on the scale for us on here to see, they came in at 2117 lbs with aluminum 427 FE, and 2148 lbs with an iron block Windsor with 30 gal fuel, AWESOME, HUH?

Amazing! I expect an aluminum block 427w would come in at ~2000 lbs then

I'd like to ask all of you----just what makes you think a 427w is so much lighter than an FE????
And for ITSTOCK----if you take the 30 lbs of junk out of the trunk you would be 50/50 on weight f/r-----------so maybe you should call it bias?????????????

I agree - an FE is actually a pretty light engine for a big block. Simply put an aluminum intake on it and it's downright trim and slim.
I think those lightweigth Kirkhams are benefitting from the billet suspension and driveline parts in addition to the aluminum engine.

With me in it the car is 1242f/1367r for a 47.5/52.5 rear bias. With the junk out of the rear it would be 48.2f/51.8r bias. It doesn't make much of a difference I guess at that point.
iron block to iron block both with alumin. heads and intake, it looks like at least 140 and as much as 180 difference.
