Again, sorry for my ignorance here. I'm reading two things on this thread. Do I need: (1) only a PCV valve and hose from one valve cover to the air cleaner, or (2) both a PCV/hose from one valve cover to the air cleaner, *plus* another hose from the other valve cover to the carb. Thanks again!

There is a special port at the base of the carb that you run a hose to one valve cover with a PCV valve( it will draw air in to the carb) The other valve cover will need a hose going to the air cleaner.

The the image above for the closed type system used to be called a type 4. One hose from the PCV to the carburetor base or spacer with a PCV fitting and the other hose from usually an oil filler cap to the air cleaner. This is what I have on my roadster and went through the visual without a problem. These oil filler caps can be bought through Mustang or Ford aftermarket parts dealers. But, everyone seems to have a different experience when taking their cars through the BAR referee station.

Just a note here, there was a retrofit program in the mid 1960’s in the more populated counties in California that required certain items be installed on cars dating back to 1955. One was the crankcase retrofit which routed blowby from the crankcase to the intake manifold and the other was the exhaust retrofit kit which basically was a kit for keeping you distributor from advancing when certain conditions were met.

I don't think you need to worry about the retroifit mentioned above. Just have the PVC set up as pictured. I had a brand new 1965 Galaxie and it only had the PVC on it and was never inspected for smog as they didn't start that up here until 1966. On my Cobra I put the PCV set up as shown for two reasons. One is it relieves pressure that would otherwise blow oil fumes and crud onto your valve covers and the other was it is easy to do. If you con't have a spacer under the carb with the place to hook a hose from the PCV valve which will be in the right hand valve cover, you should have a place in your intake manifold that you can take the plug that is probablu in it and put in a connection to hook the hose to.

I will when I get it

I just started to think about this problem when Brent pointed out to me that my Holley Ultra HP carb doesn't have a PCV port. I'm planning on getting my SB100 cert in early January, and I'll probably have the car inspected in Jan or Feb so I have a lot of time to solve this problem.
