I just want to say congratulations !! You have created a beautiful and elegant breed of cobra and from what I have seen here it's nothing less than spectacular!
I'm already drooling on what I see in your last set of photos and even with the little chrome you have on now the lines and color are just perfect!! Can't wait to it when the windshield, bumpers and the other chrome hardware are installed. |
Ron - If you have gotten to this point, did the fender revisions require any trimming of the front or rear wheelwell bulkheads?

Dan the front panels will not need to be trimed but since the rear quarter now have a totally different shape, a new template will have to fabricate and then transferred to the supplied ERA aluminum fender bulkheads and cut.
Eddie is already on top of that since he brought it to my attention even before we started the project. He has left no stone unturned and really did his homework on this one. |
Thanks. It's a big temptation for me to order a set of your rear fenders and go back to work on mine. But since I've just gotten it on the road I'm resisting so far. Looks great.

Beautiful car and work by your shop. Congratulations. ERA should work out a deal to offer that as an extra cost option using your fenders from the molds.

We are looking forward to doing another narrow hip in January and it is another ERA. Dan the attached photo shows how we bonded the body to the outrigger. That's a nice detail. I ended up using countersunk 3/16 rivets on mine and a marine adhesive/sealer. Looks fine with the rivets flushed out and painted over but probably overkill. Looks like this may become a trend with ERA:)

Eddie getting her strapped up and heading home. His tow vehicle is just beautiful !! A brand new Diesel powered Jeep Cherokee with all the bells and
whistles. I never herd such a quite engine and at over 400 foot lbs of torque for a 6 cylinder it has way more than enough pulling power. Ersatzfknarf ,, I talked to Eddie yesterday and he had a few LARGE home projects he had to attend before getting back on his narrow hip project but he did spend some 8 or more hours getting the inner fender panels customized since they had to be trimmed to fit the new shape of the quarter panels

Looks great! Seeing those Gray Jeep / solid Blue ERA Cobra tow photos coming home from the shop is a bit like DejaVu for me. My original color was suppose to be NW Blue but I tweaked it just a tad last minute. rear end width
MM,
do you know if the rear end differential was the standard 54.5 or 52.5" narrowed width version for pin drives on the narrow hip car pictured? Are those 245/60-15s on the rear? Looking at the photos I'm trying to understand if you think those tires will rub on the inside of the rear fenders or not once fully loaded and compressed. I'm making reference to another narrow hip car that I helped a friend with that came off an original 427 narrow hip mold. It was pretty close, less than 1/4 of clearance barely following the arch travel of the suspension. It would rub if the tank was full of fuel with driver/passenger. The fix was new springs and QA1s. |
When I assembled the xj6 rear I exchanged the half shafts and control arms with ERA. So it is the standard rear with inboard brakes that is used on ERAS. I was going to use an xke rear with ERA cage which is what was used on all early ERAs but opted for xj6 because of strength of stub axles. The first ERAs even used the xke cage. The tires are 245 70 series.Peter's advice. We jumped up and down with 2people in trunk with Spax nuts backed off to make sure of clearance. Close but clears. Ron did all body work with wheels and tires mounted to make sure of body clearance. The present ride ht. is set high for ease in sliding jack under during build.
