George, the small-block cars used a different red than the later versions, and the shot of 2096 suggests it still wears the typical cherry-red Cobra color used on these examples. Rangoon is a lighter red, with some orange in it, and the shot above doesn't look like Rangoon to me.

I thought that both cars were the same color, but if Ned says that the 289's weren't Rangoon Red, then they weren't. Ned is the expert.
