Excellent. I just went out and checked levels and I needed a quart of antifreeze. I have never seen it leaking out but it must have been squirting out through the overflow hose. It was good I checked.

Now you'll leave puddles on the garage floor.

I will give that a shot when I flush in the fall. I have heard lots of FE Aluminum owners running distilled water and water wetter. I would do that, but every fall would have to flush and refill with anti freeze. Ohio sucks in the winter.

As I was typing Jamo posted. I have heard the distilled water and water wetter works best. Perhaps I will do that next summer. The garage was a cool 24 degrees last winter with a heater running. I need to pull a 220 feed to get a more efficient heater. I have that to do. Just not enough time in a day.

Phil-Jamo lives in paradise where you don't need AF.
Don't run plain water. You said you don't get over 200 (that can't be right) so you don't need water's heat transfer.
You need winter protection and the raised boiling point of a mix. Use AF and distilled because of your ally radiator. And yellow AF has not hurt my system in 27 years.

ERA Chas -I know Jamo lives in paradise. However, 200 is about as high as I have seen it get and that was stuck in traffic at 90 degrees. As soon as I get on the road, drops back down to 180 and stays there. I run a puller fan and leave it on all the time. I will try to pay more attention to the max temp when its shut off, but I don't think its been much higher. It may have to do with my driving habits as I don't like sitting in traffic and not moving. It could also be that I cruise more than continuously hammer. I am still getting used to it as this is the first summer with it.
Pat- Yes, it may now leave a small spot on the floor.

Amazing that a simple little thread about a sprinkles bottle can generate this many posts. And just go on and on and on....

Patrick,
Yes, you were correct. A small puddle of antifreeze on the floor this morning after a brief ride.

Related question: Does a coolant recovery system meet the track requirement of "no fluid discharge", and is there any reason why this could not be installed on an FE ? If I'm going to install a can in the eng compartment anyway, why not go the extra couple of steps and go recovery system ?

I have also decided that flat white painted side pipes are a pain. Pipes get hot, pain bubbles and turns color. I will try a 7 day cure and see if that is any better. But back on topic. Is it better to run in the 180 degree range or 200 degree range? I know the stat is 180. I also warm it up to 140 or so before pulling out of the driveway. Then I drive gently until I reach the 170-180 range.

Either one is just fine. The engine will outlive you running at either one of those temps.

You're overworrying this Phil. !80 Stat is fine. You could see running temps up to about 235 (I did) with the extended boil point that an 18 pound cap and AF mix allow-without boil over. Only worry if prolonged is that the brass tank splits its seams or a worn hose lets go. You are checking your hoses aren't you???.
The only concerns are that oil temps mimic that (they should) and keep it moving. If you must idle (lights etc), raise the RPM to 1800 or so to move the water pump faster.
Drive more / worry less.
