I have had both a 911 Turbo and I am now on my second Cobra. In my opinion, the 911 Turbo is world's most perfect car: Drive it to the track in the morning with the AC on and the stereo blasting, hammer on it at the track all day, wash it, pick up the wife and valet park it at a nice restaurant for dinner. And it won't even matter if you get caught in the rain.
Thing is, you can't choose what you love and when I was done paying for college, I didn't buy another Porsche but I finally got my Cobra. Sold the first Cobra only so that I could build a more "accurate" replica.
I may own a Porsche again someday but only when I can't climb in and out of my Cobra
I think you will be happy with your decision.

The Turbo was in my sites. That was my end game as the car I wanted.
I was a little surprised that the 911 was missing something and making it faster would likely not fix it. In the end the Cobra is more of a hobby than a typical car. In my youth I was a motor head and I think I missed that.
I look at this as an extreme muscle car without the hassles that 40+ year old car brings with it. I had the car I drove in high school until recently. It was a SS396 Camaro. I sold it because I was not passionate about owning it. If I was going to go do a car of that vintage it would probably be a convertible Big Block Vett. But when the Cobra is to hard to get into I may revisit the Porsche Turbo (that is not exactly easy to get into either).

I just sold my 2002 911 turbo to buy my SPF. I had 2 SPF's in the past so I knew what I was getting into. I just wanted to get back into a raw muscle car that would be more of an experience every time I drive it. My wife and I put 2000 miles on the Cobra this past Summer and it is a blast. I live in GR so come take a look or for a ride in the Spring.

Which Porsche and which Cobra are in the mix as to which is faster? Faster how? In what setting? Safer? Likely the Porsche unless you are talking Spyder or maybe a caged Shelby Challenge car versus a stock street Porsche which the nod would go to the Shelby as far as safety for track work.
You talk in generalities which doesn't always hold true.

Porsches are definitely better cars.
That's why it's so much fun embarrassing them.

I've had Porsches for 11 years. From the first year 996, Carrara S, 4S to GTS. Great cars without doubt. I've had three Cobras since 1995. Excalibur, ERA and a Shelby. Love them.
The only way to compare them is to discuss the differences. Two totally different universres. Totally. Both great in different ways but both get the job done as far as satisfaction and excitement. Its like deciding whether to spend the night with Ginger or Mary Ann. Both will totally succeed in satisfying you but it's a different experience.

A Porsche is a world class grand touring machine that will take you from Coldfoot Alaska to Key West Florida in safety and comfort..... a Cobra is more like my3cylinder 2cycle 500 Karwasaka....fun for about 3 hours....

The new Porsches are in a class of their own. They will out handle, out accelerate, out stop and out "comfort" your 60's cobra replica.
One will get you the the girl and the finger, the other will get you a a beer and a thumbs up.
The question is: would you rather be Steve McQueen, or Sean Connery?

At that time I knew it was a bit nuts but I was 19-20 and invincible. You could feel the frame flex. I used to drive that 1-1/2 hours to visit a girlfriend and it started snowing on the way home once. That was "fun".
I had so many near death experiences in vehicles like that I can't see the Cobra as beyond my experience, especially since I have mellowed a bit since I was in my 20-30's.
